Reviews of Bell Hospital Tower
"Emergency department gets a 0/5 stars. The worst nursing staff with the worst attitudes. Came in with complaint of chest pain, took an EKG and made us wait in the waiting room until a room was available while my 17 year old is having a hard time taking deep breaths, chest pain 8/10, headache, and couldn’t even ask what we have taken to help. Couldn’t have the audacity to care."
"I normally do not complain about any type of service unless I am trying to bring subpar service to the attention of others considering using their facilities. Once again, I am commenting on the University of Kansas Hospital. Normally, when a Primary Care Physician and/or various Specialists cannot properly assess your condition, they recommend and refer you to a specialist in the field of expertise best for a person’s condition. Since it can take as much as six months and beyond to see anyone, a person’s symptoms can worsen in this time frame. This is the case of my wife whose has been battling a neurological movement disorder for nearly four years now. It has gotten to the point that she asks the neurologist if she can please get in sooner to see them. The response is ALWAYS to go to the ER (or now called the ED so it sounds more eloquent). My wife has been experiencing severe non epileptic seizures, body contortions and extreme chronic pain for several years now. More recently, she has started have uncontrollable tongue and jaw movements that are causing excessive drooling. The “specialists” at KU have told her varying recommendations that include pray and just ignore it. Over the last several months, her condition has become so bad that I had to go to the ER/ED. Each time they showed that they had no knowledge or understanding of what she was going through, did basically nothing to try to find any comfort or solution for her condition, and did their best to release her as quickly as possible. The most recent visit was two days ago. As they were trying to push us out the door, my wife started experiencing seizures in front of the two nurses trying to get her in a wheelchair. One of the nurses finally left to get the doctor. Upon her return, they tried to calm my wife down. Did they try to further analyze her condition? No! Did they try to contact the on call neurologist? No! Did they try to contact her current neurologist? No! Instead, they urged her to keep her upcoming appointment with her Neurologist in two weeks. Also contact her Primary Care Physician. He is the one who had no idea as to what to do and told her to seek out help with a Neurologist. Basically, the Primary Care Physician says to go to a Neurologist. The Neurologist says go to the ER/ED. The ER/ED says to go back to the Neurologist and the Primary Care Physician. Do you see a pattern here? Lack of care, competence and effort. A tertiary referral hospital , which KU is considered to be, is a supposedly a level of health care obtained from specialists in a large hospital after referral from the providers of primary care and secondary care. You continue to fail miserably at this. For those of you who took the time to read all of this, thank you for your patience and understanding. Now watch to see if KU even bothers to respond to this. If they do, it will be the usual copy and paste response that shows no care or interest for a disabled patient in need of medical attention. Isn’t that what hospitals are supposed to do?"
"I wanted to share my opinion of KUMC to provoke thought for others considering them. First off, their staff, nurses and doctors were all friendly and seemed knowledgeable. The facilities were clean and everyone was accommodating. However, my open heart surgery had complications, my incision got infected post surgery, while dealing with the infection, I got gall stones so they removed my gall blatter and I later ended up with two abdomen infections requiring accordion drains. My opinion is that although KU may have some of the best doctors, it’s important to understand that few of them will perform your surgery, the actual work will be performed by first year doctors in there fellowship year under the supervision of the more experienced doctor. I didn’t realize this when I choose them, had I better understood, I would have choose differently. I suspect some of my complications were the result of the lack of experience performing the work, however, one will never know. Do your homework and ask better questions going in."
"Scheduled appt, seen Doctor. All was good until the bill. Dr. I have been with since 2017 classified me as new patient. Remember it's 2024! So I received my bill and the charges are substantially higher because the code for new patient means more money, than if he would have coded me as existing patient. I paid the bill in full, couldn't talk with any of the clowns at this circus for billing that knew anything! Been waiting for a return call. Still no call. Second issue suppose to receive another procedure. Wow, I have to go in for a preconsiltation before the procedure. Double dipping one for preconsiltation and then break if off inside with the procedure. All illegals get health care for free. Tax paying citizens are getting screwed and University of Kansas Health Care is enjoying the screwing. I'll be moving to a different doctor. One that cares about me not his pocket and how he charges to get more money!"
"I just gave birth here and everyone was so nice! I literally came in super close to having my daughter and they handled everything well. This is my second baby and I love that they were supportive and never made comments when I was going through contractions. I had to squeeze a few peoples arms and they were extremely nice about it. They helped me through a natural birth after an unplanned c section 2 years prior and I will always be grateful for this. The lady who wheeled me in was an angel. She was praying for me and I didn’t get to see her face since I was in labor but hearing her calmed me down so much. I’ve never had such a better experience. I feel bad I wasn’t able to give back after everything since it was such an unexpected moment. I just want the whole team to know how amazing they were. The postpartum care was amazing. They made sure I was taken care of and they always checked up on me and baby. I love that they cared so much and went out of their way for anything I needed. I would definitely recommend this hospital for anyone who is expecting. I’m so glad I chose this place even if it was a bit far."
