"If I could give 0 stars I would. This has got to be one of the scammiest groups of people I’ve been around. They conduct their business in an unbelievably shady way. We reserved a sedan for our visit to Springfield. We were told in these exact words from the female agent Christa when checking in for our reservation: “Oh looks like we have a 4Runner for you.” Normally we use enterprise so when they say this it means whatever car you ordered they don’t have so they’re just giving you what they have. That’s not the case with Budget but they will not verbalize this with you, they will just charge you more money for an upgrade without telling you. The reservation was booked for about $138 for 3 days. When talking with the manager Bryan he backed his employee telling us that she didn’t need to verbalize it because it was hidden in the paperwork that we signed. There was absolutely no verbal indication that they were trying to upgrade us to a nicer car, we would have vehemently declined if that was the case. Bryan the manager admitted that Christa didn’t verbalize it because she didn’t have to because we initialed the contract. He essentially admitted that this is their up-sale tactic. They just start naming cars and expect customers to agree and then they quickly have you initial without going over the upgrade/up-charge on the card. We were also charged twice on our card in two amounts of $502 for a total of $1004, and when we brought this up to Bryan he blamed the bank app and said the bank app must just be broken and glitching because in his experience working here and at hotels that’s what happened. Well we called the bank and the bank app wasn’t wrong, we were indeed charged twice and had to dispute the second charge and have a new card issued because Bryan the manager at budget can’t take any responsibility for him or his employees mistakes. Either that, or these are their standard business practices that include trying to swindle people out of their money by secretly upgrading their car without any verbal acknowledgment or confirmation and agreement from the customer. We will never use Budget or Avis ever again. It was by far the most unprofessional experience we have ever had with any major corporation or business."
"My experience with renting a car through Budget was pretty fantastic. I loved the car, it handled well and had great gas mileage. The check in/pick up was easy and the customer service at the desk were wonderful. I will update when I see how quickly the hold on my debit card is released."
"Horrible!! The manager, Brian Thresher, refuses to return my call. I booked a reservation for my elderly father. My dad arrived to pick up the car and he was told he had to buy the insurance since he did not have a copy of his own insurance card. He was told he wouldn't be allowed to rent the car without buying their insurance. He didn't understand and signed the agreement. Once he returned and complained to me about his experience, I called the local office and was told the insurance was optional, but he signed it and therefore had to pay it. They were taking advantage of an elderly person. I have been trying to call the manager for over 1 month with numerous voice mail messages and hand written messages supposedly left by his front desk customer service people. I will be reporting this to corporate and persuing a complaint with the better business bureau."
"I have always used Enterprise in the past but the level of service I received from Budget has turned me into a Budget customer. The young man that helped me was extremely nice, efficient, professional and patient. He made the process so easy. Traveling can be stressful, but when you are dealing with someone who is smiling, using eye contact and is kind as well as fast, it really makes a difference."
"This is the first time in years that I traveled. This Budget shows me pictures of the car I was assigned. I usually take my own photos before every car rental for my protection. When I got to the car, it had lots of minor damage from wear and tear, too much to list. In addition, the interior was filthy. The cup holders were sticky with a liquid spill, the steering wheel, seats, etc. I did not want to waste time to swap (may get another filthy car) and had a long drive that I wanted to start. This was the worse car I ever rental, had over 43000 miles on it, but the minimum should have been a swap down of the car before the next customer."
