Buccaneer State Park
About the Business
Located on the beach in Waveland, Mississippi, Buccaneer State Park is a popular tourist attraction with a rich history dating back to the late 1700s. The park is situated in a natural setting of large moss-draped oaks, marshlands, and the Gulf of Mexico. Visitors can explore Buccaneer Bay, a 4.5-acre waterpark, Pirate's Alley Nature Trail, playground, Jackson's Ridge Disc Golf, Activity Building, Camp-store, and Castaway Cove pool.
The park's history is tied to infamous French buccaneer Jean Lafitte, who used the area for smuggling and pirating activities. Andrew Jackson also used the site as a base of military operations during the Battle of New Orleans. Today, visitors can enjoy the park's amenities and learn about its fascinating past.
Please note that beginning August 1, 2023, Buccaneer Bay will only be open on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) through Labor Day weekend. The park is easily accessible via MS-43/603 or MS-607, and GPS coordinates are available for accurate navigation. Additionally, the park staff can provide information and directions to nearby attractions and events, such as the Nereids Parade, Blessing of the Fleet, Jazz Fest, Crab Festival, and Cruisin' the Coast.

"Wonderful campground! Negatives: they DEFINITELY NEED SIGNS ON WHERE CAMPERS CHECK IN. We pulled in, no one in the first small building, no signs on what we needed to do or where we needed to go. So we hopped back into the truck and just kept going. While we were staying there, we saw and talked to many other campers who had the same issue. Also, the back end of the park needs attention. (Roads and sites, very worn compared to the front of the park) Management- do a better job with park signage, please!"
"Love Bucaneer but they need more maintenance people. We only had 1 bench on our picnic table. It was that way last year too. Nice laundry. Store and game area. They aren't picky about rugs and driving or parking in grass."
"I am so glad I found this place online. It is the nicest state park I've ever stayed in. They have a Fenced dog park. Great laundry facilities., Swimming pool which I didn't use. Because it is the winter and Ann incredible view of the golf coast. Everyone was so nice. I was so happy there."
"We just discovered this place and absolutely love it. My 4 year old has the best time. Get there early if you want to rent a cabana or snag a table with an umbrella. There aren't alot of shaded areas."
"The camping spots were great. Plenty of room cement slabs made parking better. My complaint is that the pool and store closed for 6 pm. When it’s 100 degrees you want to wait until evening to go out by 6 because it stays light until 830 maybe they can change their times during pool season. The beach is within driving or biking distance"
