Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, LA 70460
About the Business
The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, located at 34888 Grantham College Drive in Slidell, Louisiana, is a peaceful final resting place for local heroes who have served in the United States military. Established in 2014, it has quickly become the fastest growing state veteran cemetery in Louisiana. The cemetery features a Carillon Bell Tower donated by AMVETS, a wall honoring groups who donate their time and attention, a brick walkway with names engraved through donations, and a peaceful fountain donated by the Knights of Columbus. The cemetery is dedicated to providing honorable burial options for veterans, with grants from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration to add additional burial space as needed.
Visitors can leave tributes at the Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM) for their loved ones buried at any veteran cemetery. The cemetery hosts an annual Memorial Day Event and encourages donations to ensure every grave has a wreath to honor those who have served. The office is closed on Veterans Day to allow employees to celebrate with family and friends, but the cemetery remains open for visiting loved ones' graves from sunrise to sunset.
Those looking to order a DD-214 or discharge from military service, locate a loved one buried in a veterans cemetery, sponsor a wreath for Wreaths Across America, or find information on veteran burial allowances can find helpful resources and links provided by the cemetery. The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery is a place of honor, remembrance, and respect for the sacrifices made by our service members, past and present.

"My wife and I had looked at the pictures of Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery available online. It seemed nice, but sometimes looking at pictures is just not enough. So, yesterday we decided it was the right time to do friendly reconnaissance and start looking for a place to land. (That's probably my USAF training kicking in, right?) As we walked-in-hand, we read many of the headstone markers aloud. One side would have the vet's name, rank, branch of service, dates, and a short epitaph. The opposite side of the headstone was available for your spouse. What an honor. It felt like being among friends. Maybe an odd thing to say, but knowing that everyone there made some degree of sacrifice for our country made you proud and unified with them. The peacefulness of that experience was so strong. The tall trees, ozone, openness, simplicity, and cleanliness of the grounds left my wife and I reassured that “this was it”. Not in a hurry to move.... but just knowing we have found our final landing place made the trip across Lake Pontchartrain so worth it! We plan on being back. Thank you to all that have worked so hard to help make this place so nice. Well done."
"I'm in deep tears my heart keeps sinking into my chest bcuz each family members I have known especially my church family members. I'm feelin wounded hearted but then I feel their spirits speak healing words to let me know to keep the faith."
"How beautiful Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. My first impression was wow. Thank you to your staff and administration job well done. I found peace having my brother resting place at the location."
"My brother-in-law in law is a Veteran of the U.S. Army and chose the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery for his location of eternal rest. It was a wonderful choice. The grounds are maintained very well, is peaceful and of course, very respectful to the veteran and their spouse."
"We recently laid my father to rest here. It is a beautiful, well-kept establishment. A few things that you should know about this place if you are planning to use the services: They are very strict about burial times. This includes a transitional military flag presentation. However, the ceremony is only about 15 minutes. Make sure that your family is there on time. Be prepared for this because it is very quick. Afterwards, plan to meet somewhere close outside the cemetery for a family brunch. We started at 10am and we left around 10:30. I watched from a distance as my dad was placed in his grave by the employees. There are several places near that can accommodate your family. You can visit the cemetery any day before sundown. For a veteran, these services are free. There is a fee to have a spouse buried there. We were told 750. Now the burial doesn't include funeral home services. Those services can range from 3000 to 10000, depending on what you want done. I don't believe they have burials on weekends. There are also events that you can attend like a Christmas wreath ceremony. Don't buy expensive flowers because the ground keepers will remove them when they maintain the area. They also have an area for cremated remains. Those were full at the moment, but they are building more. Hope this helps."
