Claiborne County School District

Claiborne County School District, located at 404 Market Street, Port Gibson, Mississippi, is a school dedicated to ensuring students develop strong reading skills. The institution will be administering the 3rd grade reading assessment from April 4-22 to determine promotion to the 4th grade. The Literacy-Based Promotion Act requires 3rd graders to score at level 3 or higher on the reading portion of the MAAP-ELA test to qualify for promotion. Students will have up to three attempts to pass the assessment, with interventions offered to those who do not succeed. The MDE has provided resources to help students prepare for the assessment, and encourages parents to utilize these tools. The school district has received donations of hand sanitizer, chairs, and a grant to support the well-being and education of its students. Additionally, the CCSD is hosting Parent Academy sessions and has extended its Summer Meals Program through December 2020 to ensure all children have access to nutritious meals.
