"Dr. Schimmel has been amazing from start to finish. She is fun, knowledgeable, and has an excellent bedside manner. At almost 30 years old, I’ve never had surgery before and I was really scared and not very trusting of medical professionals due to things I have seen family members go through. As soon as I had my first appointment with her, I knew I was safe because she treated me like she actually cared and not like I was just another person to make money off of that day. She took TIME with me. She also broke down statistics for me and explained the surgical process thoroughly. I think some doctors get into the medical field for the glamour or the money and find out that they don’t actually care about helping people. I don’t know Dr. Schimmel personally but I was given the impression that that was not her experience and she does this because it matters to her. I also have to give kudos to her nurse, Mary Blair, for always responding to my messages through MyChart promptly and in a compassionate way. For the first time in my life, I can comfortably breathe through my nose and I am only one week post op. I am incredibly grateful to be able to sleep at night without struggling to breathe and I know it’s only up from here as I continue to heal. This is what medicine is supposed to be about!"
