"My family and I go every year in October. It is like a tradition to us already. Inmates get to sell some of the beautiful stuff they make, like the wooden rocking chairs. There is always live music also by the inmates and delicious food. If you have never been to an Angola Prison Rodeo, GO next year, you'll love it!!!"
"I enjoy going walking around looking at all the crafts, there's alot of talented people. The food and the rodeo is the reason I enjoy it."
"“The Angola Prison Rodeo is unlike any traditional rodeo you've ever seen. Instead of cowboys, the arena features prison inmates showcasing their skills in thrilling events like bull riding, barrel racing, and bronco riding. This unique spectacle offers a distinct American twist on the Roman Colosseum, and Angola's rodeo is the last of its kind in the country. It's important to be prepared for the way prisoners are treated during the event. There's no assistance provided as they leave the arena; they must make their own way. Many contestants are quickly thrown to the ground, and some endure injuries, including broken bones or worse. Those who manage to hold on receive varying cash prizes based on the level of risk involved.""
"One of the most amazing trips ever. We drove over nine hours to see the rodeo, and it was worth every minute. Awesome craft sales beforehand, and a spectacular rodeo. I highly recommend it."
