"My husband and I held our pre-wedding rehearsal dinner at GRIT and are so happy we did. Our experience with them was fantastic from start to finish! Our experience started with a one-on-one consultation where we discussed our guest count and chose our menu, which included food and drink service. GRIT created an absolutely delicious menu for our family to enjoy. Angie, the owner, was very responsive to my questions leading up to our rehearsal dinner and made me feel like she was happy to be a part of our wedding weekend. We opted to have our rehearsal dinner in the GRIT's outdoor space, and they set it up beautifully. All the tables had tablecloths and candles, and there was a crackling fireplace and two space heaters to keep us toasty warm. The GRIT staff were excellent, ensuring our drinks never emptied. They brought all our food to the table simultaneously so no one had to wait for others; we could dig in all at once. Angie even took the time to come out and greet me, which was so sweet! The food was fresh and delicious, and my family raved about our meal at GRIT the entire wedding weekend. The airline chicken breast and roasted chile sweet potatoes were definitely the crowd favorites (and my absolute favorite was the chocolate torte with dark cherry coulis). I highly recommend GRIT for your next special event!"
"I live in Water Valley, and I enjoy taking the 15 minute scenic drive over to Grit in Taylor. The food and drinks are always fantastic. The staff is very friendly and willing to accommodate any of your needs. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with rotating art displays and a patio with a cozy fireplace. If you are dining alone or with a small group, I recommend sitting at the bar to eat. The bartenders always have great recommendations! If you go often enough, you might even get a drink named after you. ;)"
"Style over substance. Much of what we had made little sense to us. First, the good--the look is cute and our favorite things were the cocktails, which were really balanced. Now, the bad--everything else. We were excited to try after several recommendations from others over the past 2 years. Our waitress was very nice but not at all trained. She didn't address the issues we had and only said sorry at the very end when she asked whether we'd be back after our first time and seemed surprised when we said no. No manager came over even though we had to send undercooked food back and they "fixed" the problem incorrectly. I'm not even sure there is a manager here. The food. Started with the roasted mushroom and arugula salad which was good but strangely missing mushrooms. It was good but I wouldn't order again. Also had the Creme fraiche ice cream which was underwhelming and came with an overpowering everything bagel flavored cone which was okay on its own but was terrible as a combination. We ended up eating with the bread we ordered rather than the cone, which made it better but not worth getting. Next we had the shrimp and peas which was okay but nothing special. The most I can say it that it was larger than expected. There was a succotash but strangely no peas! The sauce was overly acidic and overpowering. We also got the steak, which would have been the highlight had they cooked it to temperature. I ordered medium rare and it was rare on the edge of blue. I asked her to redo and they threw the already-cut steak (it came presliced) back on the grill or in the broiler until charred. You should never put cut steak back on the fire. It came out so dark it looked well done. When we told the waitress (who didn't ask) that it was cooked wrong both times, she said it was her fault that she hadn't told us that medium rare there is 120°. Having since looked that up, that is barely rare. I'm not sure, having eaten in many restaurants, why this one would redefine temperatures. Overall, huge disappointment and I would not recommend."
"The best food I’ve had in a long time! You can tell that there is thought, detail, and love put into every aspect of your dining experience. The food is well balanced with high quality ingredients, the ambiance of the restaurant, the friendly service. The outdoor patio is perfect for winter (fire place, heaters, and individual blankets!). We ordered pork belly, charred cabbage, the burger, ice cream trio, and the Indian milk fritters, 10/10 on each one. If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate to go."
"Locally sourced ingredients, exceedingly friendly staff. Gorgeous setting and peaceful surroundings. A+ The shrimp and grits with andouille sausage was perfect."
