"After calling around 50 psychiatrists to see who was accepting new patients, I finally landed on Dr. Berman. He called me back, we briefly went through my history and medications, and set an appointment six weeks out. I went through the process of insurance and payment setup with his biller, filled out the pre-visit form, and arrived at my appointment, only to be denied service. Because my general practicioner had prescribed a sleep aid and a muscle relaxer, which I take very rarely (0-2x/month), he informed me he wouldn't take me as a patient because those were controlled substances. He really wasted my time. I could have continued my search for a new psychiatrist, and I could have avoided missing work to make the required in-person appointment. Add to that the anxiety of needing medication but having no prescriber and the dejecting, demoralizing process of searching for a new psychiatrist. Extremely unhelpful for someone who suffers from anxiety. If you require, have been prescribed, or think you might have ever been prescribed controlled substances (check—I had no idea a sleep aid or a muscle relaxer were controlled substances), for whatever reason and by any doctor, don't bother calling him."
