"Where do i start.. Cobalt Sounded good up front. And here i am almost September with them trying to give me a partial refund after not completing my taxes. The negligence there is overwhelming. They keep trying to push me towards extra services like a full business return even though multiple times over the phone, we decided i didn't need a business return and just a schedule C. Then i spent hours gathering and organizing all the docs i thought they said they needed. After submitting, I emailed multiple times that I'm ready to chat about what they needed next. Next thing i know they are saying our agreement doesn't include accounting services because i didn't provide a P&L for each of my properties and that they will no longer be doing my returns. All they had to do was call and give me clarification because I've NEVER had to do a P&L for my properties for my CPA. OR They could've just charged me for accounting services to help me with the P&Ls (which they advertise on their site). I'm lost as to why they are bailing at the end of the year and not wanting to give me a full refund. They haven't done anything yet. Maybe they worked on a business return that a CLEARLY told them i didn't need. They don't even know my mailing address as they are trying to send my partial refund to a property i haven't lived in for years."
"My husband and I were looking for a new CPA who specialized in Real Estate and Investing. After meeting with Adam, we decided to move forward with his tax services. We only met with him one time before he took on our 2017 taxes. We discussed our tax situation with him and he said his fees were $900 for the 2017 tax year. It was more than we paid with our previous accountant but decided to make the switch because it was what we needed. I submitted all of our tax paperwork months before the 2017 dead line but our taxes were only completed a few days before the due date. After I reviewed the taxes I found many errors including a huge tax bill from IRS. We were so stressed out because it was days before taxes were due and we never had to file an extension; but this time we had to. Luckily Bryant and Adam filed the extension for us. Then we finally met with them in person and had to explain everything to them. By this time it was mid-May and I just had my baby. So we were dealing with tax extensions and our new born baby. After many emails, calls and meeting we finally sorted it out and taxes were submitted. Then the 2018 tax year comes around and they increase their rate from $900 to $2400. I called and discussed with Adam and he explained to me the reason for the increase was due to the complexity of the 2017 tax year. He had also included tax projection and planning services, year end accounting and reconciliation services. As we headed into the end of 2018 I tried multiple times to set up an appt to discuss end of the year tax planning. We finally got into to see them early 2019. We did agree to pay the $2,400 although it was really steep and a huge increase for a small business owner. As always, I submitted all the paperwork for the 2018 tax year; making sure everything was clear and we didn't risk filing an extension again. I was really nervous we'd have to because of the year before. Our taxes went very smoothly and Bryant did a great job completing them on time. After the taxes were filed I emailed Adam again inquiring about the 167% increase for his bill and he said he would look into it. We didn;t have any end of the year tax planning prep or even quarterly check ups that were promised on the engagement letter. That is why I thought they could decrease our bill. Then Bryant called my husband and told him there was nothing they can do about it and like it or not that's their price. So my husband said okay will you guys reconsider decreasing our bill for 2019 tax year and they said no. We are a small business self employed with an LLC that is used every other year. They said it was too complex and thus their fee went up. Our fear was that they would increase our bill every year. We paid the bill then a few days later they sent us a termination of service. We were sad that they would so easily fire their clients without calling us and talking about it. I was horrified; so I called Lauren Alexander to discuss that letter with her. She has yet to call me back. The cobalt group is okay but to us it seemed like they lacked customer service. As i look back at the situation; the extensions, fees could have been avoided if they had only took more time to get to know our tax situation from the beginning. We are back to looking for a tax accountant who specializes in Real Estate and investing."
"Thank goodness for Adam and the Cobalt Team! Their knowledge of accounting as it relates to Property Management, client trust accounts and the ins and outs of AppFolio has been a lifesaver. I'm not sure the team ever sleeps as they always seem available to answer my questions. Thank you for taking such good care of Living Room Property Management's accounting needs."
"The Cobalt Group provides awesome accounting and property management services. They manage our rental property in a very professional manner and also do an excellent job on our personal and business tax returns. We could not be happier with their services and highly recommend the Cobalt Group."
"Horrible company they took over a property we lived in, gave a no cause eviction and constantly harassed us asking if we vacated the unit yet. The property manager we dealt with never replied to emails and was never in the office to answer questions, but of course we heard from him asking if we were gone yet. Stay far away from this place. They also stopped yard maintenance months before we were to be gone as well as garbage service!"
