"My kids really enjoyed the RecTennis summer camp at Sellwood Park. They had some light driveway tennis as their experience and it was a perfect balance of skill building and fun. Their coaches were fantastic. Will definitely do this one again!"
"We love RecTennis! I was nervous about sending my daughter with down syndrome, but she was included and accepted from day one. As advertised, they welcome all abilities and provide a fun, inclusive atmosphere for kids to have exposure to the sport, improve skills and make new friends. The coaches Kara and Mike were just excellent. Very positive experience for our family. Thank you!"
"We tried the 3-hour a day summer tennis camp at Vista Brook Park. It was very little tennis instruction and the kids who were more experienced got the most time with rackets in hands (for example, playing games where kids who missed the ball had to collect the better players’ balls from the court as they hit them). My daughter had an ok time but I wouldn’t pay for this again."
"We love love love RecTennis!!!!! During the winter months my 12 year old daughter did two hours of group classes each Friday after school. This summer we signed her up for the summer camp classes at Gabriel Park which is when her skill level really grew. The instructor "Kent" was beyond amazing and reinforced his teachings with positive comments which made the kids try more than they normally would. We are eagerly awaiting updates as for future classes/camps. Thanks for everything so far, Elsa"
"If you are looking for filler activities for 1.5 or 4 hours this works great. The kids enjoy playing a variety of camp-style games and the staff keep them busy and active the entire time. The staff are warm and friendly and kids really do have a great time. That said - if you are looking for a camp that will actually teach your child(ren) how to play tennis this is NOT the best choice. Playing games (i.e. Lobster using the rackets as 'claws') with the tennis equipment is as close as they will get. The kids do not learn how to hit the ball down the court, rules of the game or even how to hit back and forth to each other. After two weeks our kid learned how to hold the racket in a ready position and swing it at a ball in front of him. That's been it so far as 'tennis' is concerned. RecTennis needs to reevaluate their marketing since it is misleading at best to state kids will learn basic tennis skills. I would recommend contacting a local high school and finding a student on the tennis team that is looking to earn some summer money by giving lessons. It will be less expensive and the child(ren) will learn more."
