"The plaza is the result of a partnership between the city of Springfield and the Willamalane Park and Recreation District. It currently has memorials honoring Vietnam Veterans and Women Veterans. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is an image of a soldier in lifelike historical detail, laser-etched on black stone with glass-art military emblems representing the five uniformed branches of the military. The reverse side contains the names of Lane County Vietnam veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice while in Vietnam. The Women Veterans Memorial is a six-foot bronze sculpture depicting three lionesses perched on a rock with symbols representing the military's five branches. One lioness looks over her shoulder to represent the women veterans of the past. Another lioness looks to the side to represent current women veterans. And, the center lioness stares ahead to represent future women veterans."
