Reviews of EkoLiving Apartments
"I was in a car accident on the property because they did not deice at all during the winter storm. David Jackson has refused to provide me with the property's insurance information, preventing me from initiating my claim with my insurance company. Does Ekoliving even have insurance? I have sent him 5 emails asking for these simple details, and he refuses to provide them each time in his email responses. They have refused to send the insurance information because they know they are at fault for the accident."
"So I've lived in these properties for 6 months after moving in had various homeless people breaking into the community, and the property management to date has still done nothing about being able to relocate or safety concerns. I would not recommend living in this property. I keep reporting the issues I have noise. I have strangers in the building and they just act like it's o k. The property management has changed three times since i've lived here And every request I have to repeat myself. This is a very uncomfortable property management."
"*EDIT* their response is nonsense. i was appreciative of brenna who helped in the beginning, that’s very true and i still am grateful for her. maintenance was NOT in constant communication with me. I regret writing a review with such disappointment, as I hoped for a positive and reasonable solution from management but that is far from the truth. When faced with a flood caused by my upstairs neighbor, the management didn’t bother reaching out, let alone, showing any concern. The flood started at approximately 9:00pm on Monday 11/20 and it came through my ceiling lights, walls, electric outlets, light switches, and sprinkler system. Despite assurances from emergency maintenance technicians that someone would promptly reach out the next day to address flood damages, I found myself in the position of having to initiate contact, as no calls, texts, or emails were received for 8 full days. The management and maintenance team were not only rude and dismissive, but they also failed to address my maintenance requests unless I consistently pestered them. Confronted with damages from my neighbor's destructive behavior, a four-day work absence, and being displaced from my apartment, the management declined to waive rent and termination fees for an early lease break. The prolonged delay in addressing and replacing the mold-infested floors in my upstairs neighbor’s apartment is also a matter of significant concern. Such issues not only impact the affected tenant’s living conditions but also raise questions about the property management’s commitment to timely and appropriate maintenance. Beyond the glaring absence of responsibility and any genuine effort to promptly address the mold infestation in my apartment, the relentless saga of broken car windows, stolen packages, pungent cigarette smoke, unsightly dog feces, an overflowing trash zone, and the perpetual stench of urine infesting both the hallways and sidewalks make this living nightmare an absolute disaster. Do not succumb to the allure of their supposedly affordable "modern" apartments or the blatant falsehoods in their so-called "mission statement." EkoLiving operates with predatory intent, deceiving you with promises while depositing you in the shoddiest, cheapest dwelling in Portland. Waiting eight days to address mold and then threatening a late rent notice after initially refusing rent waivers hardly qualifies as superior customer service. Proceed with caution – this is a venture into the depths of housing despair. Should you decide to lease from this company, ensure that all agreements are documented in writing. I personally experienced an attempt to misconstrue my words and attribute consent to something I never agreed to. Fortunately, I was able to counter this by presenting email receipts as evidence to refute their claims."
"Horrible communication, pressing maintenance requests left open with no follow-up for months on end, no one at the company seems to know what is going on at all. Property manager changed and I wasn’t notified, so when following up on one of my maintenance requests with the old manager, I was ignored until I spend significant time on their phone systems talking with people who didn’t know what was going on. I’m sure I’ll have more issues as my lease is not even 25% complete, would not recommend renting in one of the properties managed by this company."
"Update: Filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and EkoLiving never responded. That says everything. I should’ve paid attention to the bad reviews. I rented at the Ivanhoe location in Portland. Bad business. Unprofessional. They took $245 of a $650 deposit from a college student during a pandemic. I cleaned the entire apartment thoroughly upon moving. Plus, I always paid rent on time and never had any issues. They claimed the toilet seat, toilet, sink, cabinets, shower/tub, refrigerator, range/stove, ceiling fan and all three window coverings were “dirty”. They also said the fan was dusty and the electric fireplace needs cleaning. “A Landlord may not apply the Tenant Security Deposit to the costs of interior painting of the leased premises, except to repair specific damage caused by the Tenant in excess of ordinary wear and tear, or to repaint walls that were painted by the Tenant without permission.” I’d type up the other law, but this review is already too long. It conveys that a Landlord may not claim any of the security deposit for normal wear and tear. The pictures they sent me with my deposit were bad quality. They claim the stolen $245 is to cover a “Full clean” and “TU Paint.” However, I only lived there for 6 months. I NEVER hung anything on the walls with nails or tacks. And I’ve gotten my deposit back from every other place I’ve rented from. Lastly, when I moved in my oven did not work. They had a maintenance person come out. He claimed he fixed it, but when I turned the oven on it started to spark. Eventually, they brought me a new oven two weeks later. Luckily my apartment didn’t burn down. They also evicted my neighbor during the pandemic. Tell me how does an electric fireplace need cleaning? I rented over the summer and used it once. Here are pictures I took upon moving out compared to the pictures they sent me. You decide if you want to get charged $245 for normal wear and tear."
