Reviews of Gardenbrook Apartments
"This place (Gardenbrook apartments and Cambridge Real Estate Services) took my entire $1200 deposit and sent me a $2200 bill when I moved out because I ended my lease 3 months early. Part of that is months of utilities, which I paid through Cambridge’s online portal, so I no longer have any access to those records. When I moved in everything was dirty, inside and out. It wasn’t painted, which is fine if they weren’t claiming they did it every time and charging me for it, holes and chips in the walls to prove it. A patch of rotten moldy wood under the kitchen sink that you can tell was painted over. Really more issues than I can list (all detailed on my move in inspection, which didn’t matter to them when I disputed the move out charges). Avoid this place like the plague, which you’d probably get from using the pool or laundry. Washing machines often found with what looked like dog food or vomit in them. But if you do decide to use the laundry, remember only the dryer closest to the front entrance works. You’ll have to pay 2 or 3 times to dry with any of the others. There was burnt greasy popcorn in the machine in the rec room, who knows how long before I moved in, and probably still there today. Just a general “we absolutely do not care” attitude about the place. People smoke everywhere on the property. People that don’t live there tend to wander through the broken down gate/empty lot in the back. Several of the people that do live there are lonely curmudgeons who you can hear all day through the cardboard walls, but will still come pounding on your door to complain if you make any noise at all. I really could sit here to list issues and tell stories all day about how bad Gardenbrook and the property management co Cambridge Real Estate Services is. Absolute vampires. The property is trash. There’s never anyone in the office to help, because they have one or two people covering several properties with hundreds or probably thousands of tenants to keep their overhead down. They’re not spending or investing anything into making tenants living experience better. But the rent is SO EXPENSIVE. And they will try to milk you for anything they can. Stay away from this place and any Cambridge property."
"The laundry room and garbage cans are always dirty, the water heater broke and hasn’t been fixed for months so we had to fix it ourselves, and rent just increased. Do not rent. Your apartment amenities WILL break and management will not be responsive."
"Called management because my apartment was not heating up the water, they said they would send someone out by Tuesday, it’s been over 2 months and no one has come despite me calling them several times a day. The laundry literally broke for a week and none of the tenants could do our laundry. Awful management. Do not rent!"
"So... to start the person I worked with was terrible at her job, I requested the apartment be cleaned and fixed because the toilet would overflow whenever you flushed, living room wasn't vacuumed, and among a MYRIAD of other issues. When it was time for me to move in, nothing was done... literally nothing, I had to do it all myself... From the ad I was told I was suppose to get half off my first rent, didn't get that, best part is if you want to pay online there is a service fee of $20, and the online bill doesn't include your utilities like they said it would, forcing you to pay via check if you want to avoid a "fee", but little did I know they would hold your check and charge you a "late fee" randomly, not to mention I got slapped with a noise complaint that I didn't do, and the person that took over wasn't any better than the last. So yeah... if you're seeking a place to live, I would look elsewhere; this establishment does not care about their tenants, people leaving is a common occurrence, and soon I will be one of them, by the time anyone reads this I only lived here for a year, and I was treated extremely poorly by the staff, so be warned..."
"It is a beautiful property. Unfortunately, I had problems with maintenance and at move out. I had several maintenance requests that were ignored without even talking to me about it. They have preventative maintenance inspections in the apartments twice a year. They asked me to write a list of things that need to be done, but they didn't fix any of them. It seems odd that they need to come inspect our apartments then won't repair anything. Upon move out they told me I would get a credit for moving out a few days early and that since I've been there so long I only had to clean the tub and oven really good. I reassured them I could do a good cleaning of the whole apartment. After moving out I found that because it was a lease I did not get a credit for moving out early. I expected that, but they tried to give me a credit 3 times that got reversed each time. They charged me a cleaning fee because it was not move in ready. Apparently I needed to pull the appliances out to clean behind them, among other things. Never mind all the other things they needed to repair. I asked if they could use my deposit for the cleaning, but they said it was no longer valid (the property changed owners and management companies years ago after I moved in.) I enjoyed living there knowing and accepting that the apartment wasn't in good condition, but my treatment after move out taints my opinion of the complex."
