Reviews of Newport Inn By OYO - Hwy 101
"This place is a joke. Hidden fees and security deposit they don't tell you about until after you book. I only had enough to book the hotel then got an email saying they require a $100 deposit at checking or you lose your booking. Then you call to talk about it and you get someone in another country that barely speaks any understandable English that can't help you. Worst situation I've ever encountered and I travel a lot."
"I stayed here long term during a tough time in my life for roughly three months. During this time I was able to focus and better myself in a room that was quiet and clean. The staff was incredibly friendly and I had good experiences with all that I happened to interact with. I would 100% stay here again and would recommend it even more than many of the beachside view motels. Great location too as far as being In the center of all the major store chains in Newport."
"TL;DR: Discriminates against the houseless, despite most of the rooms being occupied by them, and it's not worth the cheap price to put up with the poor service and location. My wife and I rent long-term during the winter months, as we live in our car for most of the year and the rooms are cheap once tourist season ends. We sign a lease and everything. We've been coming to this motel for about three years now and have never had a problem until now. Our room was paid up for two months, and we were in our second month, hoping to have enough money for a third before we check out. We get a notice telling us that we owe an extra $700+ or we'll be evicted. Not only was our room paid, but you can't stay here at all without paying upfront at the desk. My wife talks to the manager, she says she'll look into it, she never contacts us, and we get an eviction notice from her a couple days later. She finally looks into it and finds out that it's a "glitch". They tried to evict us over a "glitch", which is a technical term for "oops, we thought we could get more money from your rich friends we just met, our bad." There's no glitch in their system that decides people haven't paid in full, and that same manager accepted both payments herself and knows how much money was wasted on this place. Now, with only two days until checkout, we get another eviction notice on our door, telling us that we have two days to vacate or they'll call the police on us. When we brought it to the manager, she said that it was because we "have no means to pay", as if we weren't going to leave at checkout. She even told my wife, as she was leaving, "It's not personal, it's just business." They only know that we can't afford a third month because we TOLD THEM SO and we said we wouldn't be staying longer. At that time, they gave us someone to contact for help with "late rent", and we can't get that help because we're not late and can't stay here long enough to be late. Last year, we stayed here for five months without any problems from management, which is a month longer than usually allowed, and we always paid upfront in full, since you still couldn't get a room without doing so, like any normal thing on Earth. We have a good record at this motel, covering the last three years, and a good reputation in Newport, so they have no reason to treat us this way. So, if you're houseless or poor, don't let them know. Apparently, new management discriminates if they think you can't pay. If the money comes through before checkout, they've lost a loyal customer over nothing. On top of this: rooms are never clean when we get them, walkways are generally dirty and sometimes a little bloody, grassy areas are loaded with dog feces despite it being against the rules, renters stand right outside their rooms to smoke, the manager's office is almost never open, and we've had housekeeping let themselves in after being told we didn't need them. I wouldn't have mentioned any of this if not for the poor treatment."
"Definitely believe all the negative reviews about this place! Room was barely swept, scuff marks all over walls and just visibly dirty. Beds were okay besides them being on rollers but wish I had a black light to really check them. One of the lamps switches didn’t work so you have to plug and unplug the lamp and the 2nd lamp didn’t even have a light bulb. Room smelt of mildew. No AC or fan so the room got hot and humid, can’t imagine being there during summer. The window has no screen so we did not want to open it, the curtain doesn’t extend the window so light comes in easily. High foot traffic, heard people and doors slamming constantly even past quiet time. There’s designated smoking areas that people did not use, many people smoked on the balconies and right in front of their rooms. No breakfast included website lies. Not worth more than $40 a night. Only positives was that the front desk was friendly and they did not charge me for a pet fee."
"I stayed here 2 days it is a budget Motel you will have lower end aesthetics in the room. My room and bed were very clean. The walls are a bit thin I could hear my neighbors but not awful. The staff however are pretty great the manager Becca is really nice answered all my questions about the area. The night guy is also incredibly nice and professional. I did enjoy my stay. I was moved into a different room due to a plumbing issue but was advised patiently asked to move. it was not an inconvenience. Regardless of the room you will be treated right."
