Reviews of OHSU Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, Eugene
"PLEASE USE EC cares! I had a referral from my doctor, they lied to my doctor, telling him that they had called me several times and i didn't answer. They never called me, and when i called them, no one answered. I got an appointment after a few months, and then i canceled after i saw that they were going to put my son through a bunch of evaluations all in a few hours. They are not professionals that's not how a person should be evaluated. The brain is too complex for a few hours. These people only care about the money they get they don't care about our kids."
"My son saw a team of specialist's for an autism evaluation. Dr. Randall Phelps is the most kind Dr. we have ever seen. Ive been trying to get my son help since he was 2. Was dismissed for years. Dr. Phelps and his team were so amazing and kind. I went into this thinking we were going to be dismissed again, and was going to give up. My son finally has his diagnosis, i cant thank these people enough. Dr. Phelps, you have the coolest job in the world, thank you for being our angel, our prayers have been answered.. we appreciate you more than you will ever know. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. Shout out to the psychologist she was really amazing as well, the OT’s very cool. Thank you thank you!"
"As a mother of multiple children with ASD, I can tell you that the way this place conducts their autism evaluations is not even remotely close to how a professional autism place does things. #1 They do everything on one day and give you a answer that day, no professional would ever agree to this as a sincere autism diagnosis requires a lot of thought and consideration. #2 They spent maybe 3 hours grand total with my child and I, that included a background, a speech evaul, a supposed autism component and a hearing evaluation. I have had to go through numerous evaluations with my children and the minimum any evaluator ever spent was 6 hours grand total split between numerous days. Don't even get me started on the fact that they except a child to sit through all of this instead of separating it into different appointments. #3 The main person isn't even a psychologist, it's a pediatrician, no pediatrician SHOULD EVER be allowed to diagnosis autism as they are not specially taught in diagnosis mental conditions, matter of fact, if a pediatrician ever even tried to diagnosis my child with Autism, I'd fire them on the spot, only someone who has went to school and studied Psychology should be diagnosing such a severe diagnosis. #4 The rooms that we had to sit in for 2 1/2 hours combined with the exception of the audiologist room resembled miniature jails, there's brick walls, no real decorations or joy....how fun! My pediatricians office at least has decals and the rooms are comfy, these rooms were 12 feet by 10 feet. Who doesn't love being cramped in a room during one of the single most stressful moments of their life?! I think I'll leave it at that....Google mindsights and save your time and money!"
"my daughter had an evaluation here recently. we have been patients of doernbecker in portland for years and have had nothing but good experiences. this clinic, however, was less than satisfactory and i was left feeling extremely defeated. in short, the provider didn’t listen to anything i had to say about my daughter. she completely ignored anything i tried to say. she even was extremely stereotypical when talking about people with ID. she said, and i quote, “people with this condition are usually the ones you see in the store bagging groceries”. how incredibly insensitive. she talked down to my daughter and i and completely ignored anything and everything i had to say. i frankly don’t care if my daughter grows up to be a cashier or live in a group home, i just want her surrounded by people that support her and care about her. she didn’t receive either of those two things and frankly, was treated less than human because of her “condition”. do not wait a year to get into this place. please go somewhere else where the staff actually cares about the children and won’t use stereotypes when diagnosing your children."
"The information and evaluation that they do are unreasonable when doing their tests they expect to much out of one whole day session and conclude the information they developed is solid evidence on a child’s learning skills and capabilities along with comments that have nothing to do with the child or the evaluation just biased opinions. The information is out dated and the tests are to long even with one lunch break at some point a child will not want to do the tests and become disinterested in them. knowing this the results the professionals get are all invalid. Along with students at the university conducting the tests even if the professionals are working along side them they do as they please texting and talking about there own families leaving the student interns to complete the evaluation not realizing how valuable the information they gather is to the parent. A suggestion for all parents would be to look into more resources and to not stay stuck with just one opinion."
