"I purchased flooring from Whitaker's during a major house remodel in 2018 and was so impressed with their customer service and the quality of flooring that I returned for my next project in 2022. Phil was super helpful from day one. I visited A LOT of home improvement stores during my remodel. Phil stands out as one of the top employees among the stores I shopped. He was not at all pushy with sales. I asked for an overview of flooring types and he gave me a broad overview, then provided detail. He understood the requirements of installing flooring over different sub-floors (I am on slab, had to pour liquid level over areas with old flooring, etc.). He was honest about the ease of installing different types of flooring (I installed it myself) and never pushed me to purchase their installation, although they do installation. He helped me calculate the number of boxes of flooring I'd need, and with both projects it was spot on - I had several planks left over for each, which allowed me to be selective about the pattern I layed down, and both times ended up finishing the project on the last box. This impressed me as there is wiggle room around how much you need when taking into consideration the planks you have to cut to odd sizes to fit around corners, doorways, etc. The store has a huge variety of different types of flooring. I went with vinyl plank for my first project and have been very impressed with the look, feel, and durability, so I again used vinyl plank for my second project. The store has floor installation kits available for purchase and rent. They allow you to take sample flooring home to look at it in your lighting and with your other furniture (huge bonus as this made a big impact to my final decision). The cost for this high quality flooring was comparable to cheaper quality I found at other big box stores, so I'm really glad I ended up here. I would have paid the same elsewhere for a lower quality product. I like asking a lot of questions before I make a big purchase and Phil was never rushed and had very educational answers. I also consulted briefly with Steve on window coverings - he was also nice and helpful. There was one other person who worked in flooring who I briefly consulted with one day - also friendly and helpful. This group seems to have a lot of expertise and all around great customer service. Five stars for customer service and flooring on two major home renos. I will continue going back here for flooring and window treatments."
"Impressed with their professionalism as well as the value. Their labor rates are an exceptional value and the material selections are wonderful. Truly appreciate that Phil took into account our limited resources and was still able to help us find a quality product that looks amazing. And for those who price shop: they beat everyone, including some very big name box stores and 2 very large big name flooring companies. The result is stunning. Entire attic: 2 bedrooms, landing, halls."
"Went in to look for some blinds. Ken approached us in a very nasty tone of voice and seemed quite annoyed he had to help us and answer any questions. Should of left right then instead of spending any more time in the store. He obviously does not like working with people and should not be dealing with the public. He had a terrible attitude and we won’t be returning to that store. Will purchase the blinds from another store that has employees who like there job and working with the public. If I had acted like him in my job I would of been fired right away. I doubt we are the first people he has treated this way and won’t be the last. If you go into shop there hope you don’t end up getting him to help you as it will be a horrible experience."
"I know it sounds like a cliche, but truly, Phil went above and beyond to help with our carpet needs. We went to 6 places that day. It was our own fault, but we had a time constraint. Phil spent a lot of time with us and steered us in the right direction. We got the carpet we needed and had it installed the same week. This is exactly why this company has been in business in Albany for so many years. Customer satisfaction at it's finest. Thank you Phil!"
"And outstanding and well run business. Just over a year ago we had Phil and Tammy assist us in selecting a whole house of flooring and window coverings. Everything was done super professionally and these folks went out of their way to accommodate our needs… Nothing was too difficult for Whitakers to accommodate. Fast forward to today… The carpet that was purchased turned out to be defective… Not good. We contacted Phil and he was Johnny on the spot in coming to visit with us and have a look at the problem. He was somewhat surprised that the particular carpet brand had failed, but immediately took responsibility and indicated that our assessment of the carpet becoming “untwisted” was not our problem, but Whitakers, and they would take care of the situation. The manufacturer tried to wiggle out of the responsibility by suggesting that the use of a robot vacuum had caused The problem. Phil did not buy this story whatsoever and after quite a bit of wrangling was able to get a full refund for us. We are in the process of selecting our replacement carpet. As we live in an independent retirement community nearby, Phil has made contact with the appropriate people and not only will the carpet be replaced and installed at no extra fees, but all of our belongings will be packed up and furniture will Be moved temporarily to accommodate the reinstall and then everything unboxed and placed in our home as it had been originally. Phil is working with our community maintenance people to coordinate this so that there is the least disruption to our lives. In our opinion, this is “old-school” in a good way. Whittakers is a good company to do business with in a time when it seems a few businesses want to take responsibility. Highly recommend this business."
