"Ok.... so I have been getting my hair cut at Rooks for the past 3 years. I was happy with the cuts that I was getting initially. But the place was getting more and more Goth and hard core. Lots of Tatoos etc. I also saw a barber yelling at a young kid. The one saving grace was my barber , Shelly. But then she left Rooks. Luckily I found out that she came here. Just had my first visit. Shelly definitely cuts my hair the best so I am glad that I found her. The place is a comfy section of a building near 36th and Broadway. The place has two large private parking lots. Parking was always an issue at the other place. So I highly recommend this place. Very friendly and professional Barbers!"

"I'm really grateful to have found Bill Boley and was glad to follow Shelly and Bill to the new shop. If you're particular about your style and your haircut requires old school technical skill and experience, Bill is your guy. He is immensely talented. I've had a lot of trouble finding a barber in Portland who can cut a taper---I like a 1930s-style long on top, short back and sides, which is a difficult style for modern barbers. Bill is probably the most perceptive pro I've worked with. He noticed things about my hair before I even had a chance to point them out. It's always a pleasure to go to Refuge and have confidence that I'm in good hands."

When I don't have a barber who knows how to cut my hairs just right, it feels like there is something slightly off kilter about the my world. I've tried Rooks, Modern Man, Bishops and Rudys but I have not been able to get a *consistently* good cut from any of those places.
