"It has been over a year since I visited Safeway on 18th. The store feels like a cross being one of those cruel science experiments they do with mice and a maze and a prison. We are the mice! There are heavy duty barricades made out of metal square tubings all over the front area. Safeway tried to soften up the prison look by surrounding the barricades with boxes and shelves of merchandising. The results feels like a cluttered prison maze. After the initial shock, I made my way through the front prison gate. I needed to visit the bathroom. The restroom sign was visible high up in the wall. I thought I could get there through the cashier lines, but the lines that were closed all were barricaded. Once I finally made it to the bathroom, there is a sign posted on the door that said a code is needed to enter and Customer Service can provide that code. I looked for Customer Service and asked one of the employees where that was. They pointed me to Customer Service. I asked how I could get there while in this barricaded maze. They said I would need to exit through one of the open cashier lines. How sad the that people are subjected to work and shop in a place that feels like a prison and a science experiment. What ever happened to businesses creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers to want to spend their hard-earned money there? Unless I have no other choice or in a mad rush for an item, I would not return to Safeway."
"Does anyone ever answer the pharmacy phones here?? No wonder y'all have long lines, got people coming down just to take up space when they could be otherwise informed over the phone when prescriptions are ready! On top of that with limited selection and the homeless greeters you’d be better off going to the Coburg location."
"What an absolute nightmare now. They now have these gate that go all around the shopping area. I got confused as to where to go and one of the only live staff was rude telling me that I had to walk a certain way. Then I was only able to use the self checkout since being helped by a human is no longer a thing. I used then self check out and threw away the receipt. Huge mistake sin e you are now detain by Safeway unless your receipt is scanned. Will never return. What a mess."
"While I've always liked this location, their new attempts to get rid of checkers and implement more self checkout means it now is starting to feel very dehumanizing with the bars at the entrance and robot scanner to check your receipt before you can leave (this means you need to make a purchase in order to leave that way). This store just has an unsafe feel to it now and like they really don't trust their customers either."
"This particular store has super employees. They are very helpful and the store is kept so clean and we'll stocked. This can be a challenge for them too as they are very busy with college and high school students. They also clean up a lot from unhoused individuals who frequently come by. I would give them 5 stars but don't because of corporate reasons outside the control of this branch site. Their sale prices frequently don't work through their apps. Their overall prices are a little higher than WinCo and sometimes Fred Meyers but usually lower than Whole Foods or Market of Choice."
