When Dr. Kolb fully retired and was no longer involved in the practice, Dr. Woolsey sent my mother a letter informing her she was no longer a patient of the practice. Out of the blue; no phone call, no conversation in the office, just bam! after decades of being a patient at that practice. My mother called and Dr. Woolsey wouldn't even speak to her.
