"Most horrible and nearly traumatic experience. I attempted to hire Steve Benton for a family law case in July of last year. After we spoke he seemed to care about my case and I was so desperate to find some representation because the case was so close to my heart and I was feeling discouraged and a bit overwhelmed with the prospect of hiring a lawyer. I am an active duty military member and only wanted to modify a custody visitation schedule for my two small children to spend more time with them and take into account my active status. I immediately payed him a 2,500 retainer after our consultation. My ex-spouse is uncooperative and because of my service obligation and travel, my ex-spouse was taking full advantage of the travel and not adhering to the schedule we had in place. I hadn’t spoken to my children in 6 months and was adamant about fixing the situation. Steve Benton saw fully into the desperation of a young mother and took full advantage. After receiving my retainer he never returned my phone calls. After nearly a week and me calling and emailing he claimed that it was over a holiday weekend and he was vacationing with his family though I attempted contact the Wednesday and Thursday before the start of that weekend. Naturally I felt that maybe the Benton firm and I weren’t a good fit so I respectfully said that I would go in another direction with another firm and asked for my retainer back. He started to berate me, raising his voice and proceeded to call me an “ignorant child who didn’t know anything about law”. He billed me for my entire retainer on the basis of “research” though he assured me through my consultation that he was very familiar with my type of case. Although when I asked why he didn’t return my call, in the same conversation he stated he was too busy to contact me because he was with his family. $2,500 billed for a week that included a holiday weekend! It was only after I said that I would notify the State Board and much of him yelling at me did he relent and refund me $2,000 taking $500 out of the guise of being “charitable”. I was so distraught and discouraged that I relented. After he calmed down I called back a few days later I asked for the court files or maybe the transcripts to at least benefit from the $500 worth of his research. He told me he never even requested the files and so never laid eyes on them. $500 for a google search while he vacations with his family. This law firm gave me a complete disservice, insulted me, then took my money. Please stay far, far away."

"I've recently been dealing with Austin. Very unprofessional, rude, & unorganized. Doesn't return calls or emails and will cut you off while talking. If you press him about anything he'll just hang up on you & you might not hear from him for almost a week. Always has excuses doesn't seem like he spends much time in the office. Ive called the front desk line 4 times since Friday twice then twice today, no response. Update: I'm forced to file a complaint with the Disciplinary Board because of his discrimination towards handicapped individuals such as myself, the easiest way to describe him is: He was Born on 3rd Base & thinks he hit a Triple, there a far more superior Attorneys in the area."
