Reviews of Oakland Plantation
"My wife and I traveled to Natchitoches for the Christmas/New Years fireworks show and it was amazing! We went to see Oakland Plantation and it was a very interesting place to visit and learn about. When we go back, we hope to be able to go inside the main house and discover more. We highly tea visit."
"What an amazing place!!! We have visited a lot of plantations over the years and this was our favorite. The staff was very informative, and the buildings so well preserved! They also have a man who visits that grew up on the plantation as the child of a sharecropper and will tell you all about his childhood. He even still makes the wire toys he used to play with as a kid! Also make sure you drive by the bridge and the plaques down by the river just past the park. There is a story about the kids of the family that owned it during WWII."
"Very well preserved Louisiana State historical property, with a long history. One of quite a few plantations in this area. The staff and rangers that work here are wonderful, and you can feel their passion about history in general. The post office/ store has quite a few items including LA passport books, magnets, etc. and is setup to resemble what it would have looked like. There is also a photo album in the store showing the before / after renovation photos for most buildings. Besides the house itself, there is a multitude of buildings and information to explore. Definitely a must-visit if you are interested in American history. One could easily spend most of a day here just exploring and learning."
"Great little plantation with a long history. The main house is set up with all original furnishings and decorations that belonged to the family who owned it. The house was given to the park system in 1998 when the last of the family moved out. There’s a lot of out buildings to include a general store, overseers house, and slave quarters. If you’re in the area, it’s worth the visit and is free!"
"This place has such rich history. The walking trail are beautiful and the shops and houses are nice. They have restrooms and great parking. The ground can be soft and muddy after the rain so come early if it's a busy day *on a few times a year* to get a good spot parking .The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable about the area and we enjoy ourselves every time we visit. BUG SPRAY is a must and a hat if it's a sunny day."
