About Us

The Gator Chateau is an educational attraction located at 100 Rue de l'Acadie in Jennings, Louisiana. As ambassadors for gators, our goal is to teach the public about the American alligator. Our attraction is free, but donations are accepted to support our program. We are the perfect stop for your family road trip, conveniently located off of I-10. Our hours are Monday-Saturday from 9am-5pm, with public viewings for feedings on Fridays at 3:30pm from June to September. We are closed on major holidays, so be sure to call and confirm our hours. Motor coaches are welcome, and reservations are available for field trips and group tours. During your visit, one of our alligator handlers will give a lesson on gators, including their habitat, diet, growth, and care at our facility. After your tour, shop in the Jeff Davis Parish Visitors Center for gator souvenirs. If you're here around lunchtime, bring a sack lunch and enjoy a picnic at our park with pavilions, picnic tables, and a playground. Come visit the Gator Chateau and I-10 Visitor Center for a fun and educational experience!

"Free fun experience! Animals are healthy and well cared for. Handlers are knowledgeable, friendly, and ready to give you a wonderful experience. We bought a few t-shirts to support them."
"Great place to stop along the route! This is a free center where you can get up and close to alligators! The kids Loved holding the baby alligators! Very nice grounds around a larger pond with tons of ducks! The kids love feeding the ducks. You can buy a duck feed right in the shop. The playground was nice and big and clean. Lots of open area for your dog to walk!"
"This little place is awesome! I was taken aback by its small size at our arrival. By the time we left, I was excited and overjoyed! There is an alligator room that houses a water feature with 5-6 foot alligators and an 88 year old alligator snapping turtle. We got to hold a 1 yr old alligator. It was such a cool experience! They have a small gift shop. There is also an extensive collection of texas tourist brochures for the taking. They have duck food for sale at the gift shop for the ducks outside. This attraction was free of charge(except the gift shop)."
"On our way back from visiting our youngest daughter in Mississippi my husband, oldest daughter and I stop to visit the Gator Chateau. We were extremely excited to hold the baby alligator. They showed us multiple alligators at various ages. The employees were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. They explained how the temperature inside is kept the same as outside and they do a lot to help the alligators in their transition into the wild. There is a very old snapping turtle that shares the area with the alligators. A gift shop and tourist information area is also located there. It is dog friendly as long as the dogs are on a leash and kept out of the alligator room/enclosure. There is no fee for admission and I think the Gator Chateau is worth a visit. It is just a bit over half a mile from the highway."
