Reviews of Tara House Condos
"UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.... NEVER LEASE AT TARA HOUSE! The landlady/owner will refuse to return your highly personal information (i.e., SSN, Tax info, etc.) she uses to vet you. When we asked the Louisiana AG to assist us, they initiated a mediation process, she refused to reply. She will treat you with sarcasm and dismissiveness. When asking questions about the lease, her response was an "Oh Please!" or "The lease speaks for itself". The place is falsely advertised on the Tara House Web site as having a fully furnished kitchen--we had only 1 coffee cup and 3 plates--to include missing numerous essential kitchen items...can and bottle openers, paper towel holder, etc. Only 1 out of 3 TV's worked. When reported, the landlady told us... Here's the phone number, call the vendor yourselves. Unbelievable! In addition, we were improperly/incorrectly billed for the TV repair--as the building has a TV service contract--but the landlady told us to take care of it ourselves. No help. Advertises herself on her web site as providing "comforting concierge service." A total joke and an extremely laughable claim if it weren't so annoyingly false. Other falsehoods on the Web site include the claim of an outdoor intercom system to enable visitors to be "buzzed in". It never worked the whole time we were there. Also, the claim that the lobby is "elegant"; it has two bathrooms...neither of which have any hygienic items...toilet paper, soap, towels, etc. Sorry, any "elegant lobby" should have provisioned bathrooms. There is a claim that the balconies are secure. We experienced a total stranger walking on our outside balcony...he had used the swivel gates on the balcony to completely walk around our outside 4th floor. Scared the hell out of us. No, it's not secure. While we did sign the Lease and deserve every annoyance stipulated in it; we failed to properly gauge what a huge rip off, financially and physically, it would be. The Lease required us to move out 4 days early (while still paying for the condo) and rent a hotel for those same 4 days during the "exit cleaning." This also required our physical involvement and checkbook...all totaling about an extra $2500 above what we ever imagined. Also stated in the Lease, there is something weasel worded as a "reserve" of paying an additional $345 for exit cleaning. Since all the landlord did was always respond, "The lease speaks for itself", we just assumed this was a set aside (to be reimbursed later) in case she was not satisfied. It turned out to be just a pure money grab in our opinion. Landlady has no clue about solicitous management of the building's tenants concerning their needs or expectations. She is rude, impolite, and discourteous. She appears to always be annoyed if you bring an issue to her attention...to include not replying at all. And therefore, she was extremely annoying for us to even have to communicate with. We leased a unit for 4 months, lived right below her, but in that whole time she never made the courteous effort to knock on our door introduce herself and show any interest in wanting to ensure our stay was comfortable and pleasant. We only communicated with her by email or text. Incredible! The night before check-out and final inspection, we asked for a phone number for the representative she sent, in case of an emergency due to severe tornado warnings that night. She refused, and told us, "NON-NEGOTIABLE...FIGURE A WAY TO BE THERE ON TIME!". Again, this is her version of "comforting concierge service". BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT LEASING A UNIT AT TARA HOUSE!....RUN!!! PLEASE NOTE: Our good friends also leased another unit at the same with similar complaints. They are also waiting for their personal documents to be returned."
"Vintage retro meets modern Art Deco in Lakeview's best kept secret. This building offers a vintage look with a luxury modern style at an unbeatable rate. It’s less than 5 minutes to I-10 which means you can be anywhere in the greater New Orleans area in less than 15 - 20 min. It’s walking distance to dining, shopping and it’s across the street from the lake. Tara House promises the relaxing end to a busy day. Highly recommend this property for many reasons. The rates are half that of anything in New Orleans and the property itself is fully furnished which takes the stress out of relocating/temporary living assignment."
"Rented a furnished apartment. Very high-quality furniture and kitchen items (e.g., pottery barn, restoration hardware, etc.). This was a comfortable stay. Apartment was very clean but incredibly expensive to rent (~$3K / mo.) and included very, very expensive move-out costs (despite staying there for an extremely short period of time, the lease requires everyone, regardless of length of stay, to professionally clean their whole apartment, plus dry clean their couches, professionally clean carpets, and dry clean all sheets). I spent almost $1,000 just in move-out cleaning costs. You will also be charged a ~$500 one time pet fee and ~$150 in the application fee which is a credit check. You will also need to tender payment stubs.. Landlord was pretty flexible and very responsive; wanted everything in writing. Would give 3.5 stars if that were an option due to the great apartment but expense rent, application fee, pet fee, and move-out costs."
"Do not rent here. It was the worse renting experience my husband and I have ever had. Way over priced and she will charge you for every little thing. Moving out was such a pain and cost us $850 and she still send us a bill after. She is not helpful setting up your TVs or WiFi and the Maintance man was very rude to us multiple occasions and made us feel very uncomfortable ."
"I stayed at Tara House while I was in New Orleans for business. It was peaceful and quiet. The condos were very nicely furnished. It was super easy and convenient to get in and out and yet it felt like home when I was there. I plan to go back next time I have business in New Orleans."
