Reviews of River Place Behavioral Health Hospital
"If I could leave negative stars I would. There is no help to be had in this facility. My daughter stays in her room, no therapy at all. She says someone comes in with a clipboard once or twice a day and asks her if she wants to harm herself and how she feels, and that’s it. She has a medical condition that requires a specific diet and that has been ignored. Her first two days she lived on Sprite, rice crispy treats and Skittles. She’s not received clothes dropped off for her, and days later is still sitting there in a paper gown yet they expect her to “socialize”. I don’t know about y’all, but I wouldn’t dare attempt to leave to eat or social with nothing between me and a bunch of strangers except a paper gown and some grippy socks. No therapy, no group therapy, NOTHING. It’s like a holding cell. Send your loved ones elsewhere."
"This place is a joke. They do not provide any professional help to their patients. They do not provide any recreational activities other than a TV. Although they say patients can have reading material and other activity books, they never provide them to their patients even if it was brought for them. Majority of staff refuse to acknowledge any patient requests. There little to no communication with the patients family or friends regarding treatment plans, medication and discharge dates. I 100% believe they extend patient's stays to collect more funds from insurance. I would also give this place negative stars."
"I received more PTSD from the staff at this facility. I was unable to sleep at night and the rule book given to me during my intake advised me to go to the nurses station when unable to sleep. The staff kept sending me back to my room, accused me of drug seeking (I was asking for help with the sleeplessness) and a male tech named Toi picked me up by my arms behind my back and placed me in the small seclusion room. He told me to sleep in there, locked me in and turned out the lights. I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. I don’t know how long I was in the room, but I was wide awake and screaming for help. I didn’t know the room was sound proof and no one came to turn the lights back on for me. It was clearly a punishment for bothering the staff. I complained about it after I was discharged and they sent me a letter in response to my complaint where they said the staff denied putting me in there. I have to sleep with a nightlight still and this occurred last year. I’m still really angry about this treatment I received. Also the doctor only spent 5-10 minutes a day with each patient. They did not care at all about helping anyone. I didn’t meet any patients that felt they were helped at all. I spent 19 days there. The staff was cruel to everyone and very uncaring. Do not go to River Place unless you want more trauma."
"Listen… REALLY DESERVES NEGATIVE STARS! There is no 1 on 1 therapy at all in this facility. You MIGHT get to go outside for 30 minutes a day. And while I was there for an entire week, I saw the doctor for a total of 10 seconds. I was diagnosed with Leukemia at 16, and this was STILL the worst experience of my life. I was admitted for depression, and was (wrongly) locked up with Psych patients. This is a “load em and hold ‘em” facility. It’s a holding cell where they medicate you, and deny you freedom until they deem you safe to yourself and others. That’s it. And they judge this from a brief 3 minute conversation with a nurse practitioner daily. There is no help here. This place isn’t to help you. You lean and rely more on the other patients to survive this experience. I hope those people are doing well. Only positive, some friendly staff. The Tech BRANDY is an absolute Angel of a Woman and I feel very fortunate that she worked my unit. If it wasn’t for people like her, I may have lost my sanity in this place. Im still recovering from the traumatic experience this was. DO NOT COME HERE!! And may God be with you if you are sent here. Book an appointment with a therapist instead. This place will only further traumatize you. Take my advice, and practice Acceptance. Acceptance of your position, acceptance of your new reality, and accepting that you have to move on and do what’s best for you!"
"When I was there it wasn’t that bad the staff were a 50/50. But I feel like they need to do better with watching the patients because it was so easy to off yourself in that hospital. They have good activities but it depends on the group your with. It’s not the best hospital but it’s definitely not the worst."
