"Had Total right knee replacement(1/26/22). Scheduled PT here. First visit 5 days after my surgery, spoke to J. Stelly(owner & PT) for 15 minutes. Checked to see how far I could bend my knee and how flat I could get it. Said looks good, should be back to normal in 6 weeks. Then turned me over to a young lady to do a few heel slides & leg slides. Next two times (same week), a young person lead me to the back, put me on a EMS machine for 5 minutes, then do 20 heel slides & 20 leg slides. While the young person stood off talking to other employees. Walked me to a recumbent bike, 5 minutes on it, could not rotate the petals and then on a reclined elliptical machine for 5 minutes. Back to EMS machine for 15 minutes with ice pack. That was it for the other 2 days that week. No real interaction with young people(not sure if they are students, PT helpers) But J. Stelly did not come by to talk to me or check my knee or progress. He was there on the last day but no time for me. First week of PT. I know that you should have contact each time with the licensed PT and they should work with you. So I read some other reviews and decided to change to another PT place. New PT person assured me that I would get him each time unless he happened to be out & he would monitor me plus progress would be checked each time. Glad I did not wait to change. I did tell J. Stelly why I left. I would not recommend STOP unless you just want to tone up and don't have serious rehab to do."
"I have been to 2 other physical therapist and Stelly is an excellent PT with independent knowledge of his profession and the staff is very patient with the Patients. I will definitely go back if the need arises. Thank you for getting me back on my feet."
"I went to SPOT for six weeks, because they were closest to where I lived. I saw my physical therapist (Stelly himself) only two times--once on my initial visit and once after complaining that the therapy wasn't helping. He didn't even try to adjust my therapy routine, which did not ever change or advance during the entire 6 weeks. Instead he sent me to some other place (not my recommending physician) to have surgery. (I refused the surgery they offered, since it went against my own specialists' advice.) I continued going to therapy, hoping to avoid surgery. Twice more I begged to see my therapist, but he was never available. Instead I was able to consult briefly with a different therapist each time. At the end of my six weeks my condition had not improved at all. I went to my specialist and asked him to recommend someone else, in order to give therapy a better chance before resorting to surgery. He recommended Fyzical Therapy and Balance Center in Lake Charles. There my PT worked with me every single visit, and by the end of my therapy my back felt better than it had in years and I was armed with exercises I could do at home that would help me keep my back strong and healthy for life. Do yourself a favor and avoid SPOT, or at the very least request a therapist other than Stelly."
"Claw hand? Think Not! 5 years ago today I suffered a major fall in my house.i was 55. I went to Jay Stelly’s place to help me recover from broken wrist & radius bone. Doc Ford operated put in a rod with screws in my hand and arm. When removed therapy began. I suffer from photosensitive seizures from harsh fluorescent lighting. Jay’s place caused me major problems even though I took medication. I stressed those concerns but not much they could do. I missed several appointments due to pain, swelling or not being able to drive due to medication taken. When I was there for therapy, they focused on my right shoulder, the least of my injuries. I kept telling them that I needed them to focus on my hand. They do not have a hand therapist, FYI. Why not tell me from the beginning that they could NOT help me preserve and get functionality back to my crucial right wrist? They ignored me & continued to put me on machines mainly for my shoulder. They put my hand & wrist into a machine that tumbles warm, crushed corncob. They told me that they bought it the year prior, which I knew, it was for my husbands right ring finger, which btw after going to Stelly, missing zero appointments, he can just barely move that finger or get change out of his pocket, etc. cannot make fist. If I had only realized... Jay & I got in a heated argument where he holds up his hand and makes a claw. He proceeds to tell me that I will never be able to use my right hand. I’m right handed. My reply, “ You know Jay, I bet you’re right! If I continued with therapy at YOUR place I probably would have that problem. That’s why I will never come here again.” He asks when’s my next appointment with Dr Ford. I tell him tomorrow. His reply is, “I’m going to tell Dr Ford all about you and missing appointments.” I’ll get my report to him before you see him. I laughed, such a childish threat. I felt like saying, ok tell Mommy and Daddy...it was something my brother and I threatened each other with. Omg I am paying this jerk to treat me this way? Ha! Not for long. I returned to Dr Ford the following day in Lake Charles, asked if he had received Jay Stelly’s report yet. I smiled at him. He said “No, nothings come through, why?” I said, “Big problems Doc. I fired him and he said I couldn’t because he just released me as a patient.” We laughed, he said, “Don’t worry.” It was like quitting a job you utterly hate then the boss says to you, No you can’t quit I fired you. Discussion continued with Doc Ford, I told him that Jay said all was all my fault. Ford decided a hand and wrist therapist was best & he’d find one. Yay! Hope Therapy in Lake Charles, I met Mikah who saved my right hand! I can bend my fingers, make a fist, do most I could before. I am probably at 95-98% usage. The hand gets tired, cramps up after much use, but it’s just life, & a body riddled with arthritis. I’m 61 years old now. I sew, crochet, fish, type 70+ words per minute with a 99% accuracy. I make jewelry, took college classes to work on computers and other electronics, etc. My point is: I feel that if I had continued with Jay, I’d have very limited movement & use of my hand. Jay did me a favor by being such a jerk, it forced me to seek out the exact type of therapy that I needed. I guess I could thank him for that, but Nah, Don’t think so! I’ve thought about making 1 trip to his establishment, ask for him by name, Jerk comes to mind, as he approaches I could flip him, “The Bird” aka middle finger and say, “Hey Jay, how’s that for a claw hand?” I would be lowering myself which as a lady I refuse to do, but I soooo want to do it! wink That is my personal experience with Jay Stelly Physical Therapy! I highly recommend ANY other company! That was 4 years ago. I was at my lowest, afraid of not being able to use my hand. If I’d stuck with him, I’d be like my husband after completing therapy there, fingers that won’t bend, cannot hold change in that hand, etc. Pics to follow his and mine."
