The Mercantile Hotel

"Staying in a room where the A/C does not work. They offered us the one other room that they had available. After checking that room out, it also did not properly cool. Front desk offered no other ability to resolve the issue because maintenance staff was out for the night. For the price that we paid for this room, was extremely disappointed that they offered no other solution to the issue. The least they could have done was offered us a comp on what we paid."

"If I could leave a negative star I would, because this hotel is not worthy of the one star that it is requiring me to leave. We checked in on a Thursday night and had to immediately call the desk and ask for a room change. The second room was equally if not more disgusting than the first. There was vomit around the base of the toilet and when I asked if someone could please come and clean the room I was told that they would be up shortly and I have yet to see anyone. Nobody ever came up to clean the room and the towels and vomit of the person who stayed here before us are still In the bathroom. They only have one elevator, the sheets have holes and hairs on them. Not to mention the breakfast is inedible. New Orleans is having a cold front and the heat is not working. So yet again I had to call the front desk only to be told that they had nobody available to fix the issue. But they did offer us blankets .Which were damp and dirty when delivered. I’m cold, I am scared to use the bathroom because it is disgusting and the front desk Staff is less than helpful. Please do not stay here! It is beyond dirty and if it is cold you will Have Zero heat!! CONSUMERS BEWARE!! This hotel is one of the nastiest that I have ever stayed in not to mention that they do not offer basic amenities like heat."

"This was one of those times that I chose not to go picking hotels based on photos. And sure enough, I was deceived. The inside of the hotel amd the rooms are a mix of modern and antique ambiance. The furnishings suggest this hotel has been around since the 60s, but the bed, the showers; and the bar assure you that 2024 is surely present."

"The suite was not very clean. There were stains on the couch throw pillow. The suite was not dusted very thoroughly. And the bathroom was disgustingly dirty! Mold around the shower caulking and soap scum on bottoms of glass shower doors. Shower door would not close all the way. There was hair on bathroom floors, shower floor, and back of toilet from previous occupants. The bathroom sink faucets leaked when turned on soaking the counter. The nozzle of the sink faucet was caked in old toothpaste. There were no protective mattress covers on mattress to protect from bed bugs. The hotel lobby/bar was very nice. The breakfast bar was good, and the lobby staff were nice. I didn't complain to lobby staff as we were only there 1 night. I would think that for nearly 300 a night, the room should of been much cleaner and better maintained."

"This hotel was awesome! Every room is suite style, which makes you feel like royalty. I loved the added touch of a record player in room with fantastic vintage jazz records. There was so much space to dance to! The customer service was impeccable and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was the bomb and the eggs were so fluffy! The decor and ambiance was perfect! Location was great, right near the River, casino and French quarter! We will definitely be coming back Mercantile! Thank you for a wonderful night and wonderful hospitality!"
