"Editing to add: UT Health Carthage replied to this review asking for me to reach out. After 24 emails back and forth no resolution was reached and it was left at “someone will call you” - no one ever called. Went to the after hours clinic feeling ill with quite a few strange symptoms that could have added up to Covid. When I was there the nurse did a Covid nose swab, sort of. She barely touched the inside of my nose with the swab for a split second and then started packing it up to send off. I questioned if she was sure she did it right because she barely touched anything with the swab. She said “I’m sure” and I explained how I didn’t think that’s how the tests were done. She told me a second time she was sure she did it right. After meeting with the nurse practitioner there I was sent to do standard blood work and an EKG a few days later at the Carthage hospital. I triple checked that they were in network before doing anything. They assured me I was in network with them. The blood work and EKG came back fine after a few days. Then the bill came. After insurance brought the bill down from $8000, they charged me $1500 out of pocket for the most basic services a hospital could provide. This place is highway robbery. When I called the billing department to ask how those services could cost so much I was told “That’s the maximum your insurance allows.” They we’re completely unwilling to work with me to bring the costs down to a fair price instead relying on the argument that they are charging the absolute maximum they legally can. Forget about what they can ethically charge for something, they are going to come after you for every penny. When I asked about discounts I was told that it doesn’t look like I have any discounts on my bill yet. I asked about the discounts that were mentioned and she said that there are no discounts, asked if I wanted to make a payment, and then hung up the phone in my face. When I later spoke to a healthcare provider from the after hours clinic and said how much I was being charged they were shocked and said those services should cost way less than that. Even the people that work there don’t understand how they charge so much. I’m just very disappointed in the ethics of a hospital that has their market cornered. I feel bad for the community that is serviced by this hospital and the lack of choice they have and will have when they are at their most vulnerable. UT Health Carthage will be there on a person’s worst day of their life doing only what they have to within the confines of the law just ready to do the absolute minimum for the maximum allowable price. Also, to round out this review: It was Covid the whole time. The Covid test had been administered wrong."
"The night my daughter broke her collarbone, we went to UThealth Carthage; we were in and out within a couple of hours- xrays done, meds given, and printed instructions to follow to ensure proper healing. All the staff that worked that night were great to us"
"Absolutely the dirtiest hospital I have ever seen. Both inside and out. Hallways looked as if a mop was an endangered species, it all stunk like equal parts sewage and B.O.. 4 police officers, not security rent a cop, but actual police posted up near the doors. I asked if it were safer to just leave, he said they were there daily. Staff were hostile towards us, like we were preventing her from continuing her manicure, she actually said that she'd have to redo her nails because of the keyboard. So.....I left and called my Dr office to reschedule at a dif facility"
