"This is a great place! There was nothing that stood out to make it the original Mexican Cafe. Pretty common items on the menu. The food was good , the hot sauce was hot. Portions were good. Very small cute local place. Service was great ! Location is perfect if you in the strand area and need to sit inside and grab a bite. The inside is like an original Mexican cafe . I’ll be back to try more items."
"Unfriendly. No greet. No welcome. No warmth at all & THAT is the reason for 4 stars. One thing about MOST Mexican restaurants is that their staff is always friendly. They will greet you and, at times, will strike up some conversation. and make you feel welcome. Great first impression! Not here. Love old creeky buildings! Parking was not an issue. Definitely not handicap friendly. Upon entry, you go up the stairs. There was an elderly woman with a cane (with an obvious "bad leg") carrying food & struggling to hold on to her food, the rail, her cane & go down the stairs. The manager stood there & just watched no help at all. My husband stopped, held her hand for support & held the door open for her WHILE the manager asked me, "How many?" (NO "good morning" "welcome" nothing) & took off (after I said "two"), I was still waiting for my husband as he was assisting the elderly lady. We then went looking for him in the direction he shot off to. Extremely turned off. No kinda friendliness. No type of warm greeting, nothing whatsoever. They sat us in a corner next to windows, which I liked. The restaurant was spacious. There is plenty of room between tables. It was clean and I don't remember much about the decor. Waiter walks up, again, no type of greet, nothing. Anyway, needless to say, the chips and salsa, our drinks, our food, and refills all came promptly. The salsa was watery, but it had a kick. Coffee was.....coffee. It was ok. The menudo was PERFECT. It was probably some of the best menudo I have had. Our visit was comfortable, delicious, and peaceful. No wait btw but by the time we were leaving, I would say 11 or noon, there was a wait. This restaurant has been nominated for three years (as seen in my photos), and I doubt it was for any type of warmth of friendly staff. Would we come back? Yes."
"First time here and wanted some Tex-Amex food and found this place on Google Maps.We read the ratings and sounded good, so we tried it. Right away we were sat down in the back. I love my margaritas and I know what there supposed to taste like so I have to try them every time we go somewhere to eat that sells margaritas. We ordered two and right away , I knew they were no good. They didn’t have any taste. We ordered three enchilada plates .They were good taste. They did have homemade tortillas, that’s a plus.Prices were decent and the amount of food on the plate was a good portion."
"A good Mexican restaurant with a history. Chips and salsa were tasty. There were four of us and everyone enjoyed their food. Rice and beans were tasty as well. Service was good and the food came fairly quickly. The only problem we had were with the bar drinks. According to our waiter, we could not get a ranch water. I did get a vodka cranberry with mainly cranberry juice..it was dark, dark red! The margarita was fine. The food was the winner here, not the drinks. I will return when I get a chance."
"Was good. But waiter rushed us as soon as we sat down. Salsa chips are good. But had the small shrimp cocktail. Don't waste your money on that. Was shrimp, tomatoes and a few onions covered in ketchup. Sad and bad. Rest of food was good, traditional. But quesadillas needed more cheese in them. Hardly any in them. Chicken enchiladas with mole sauce were good. Pork al pastor were excellent."
