About Us
Hales Pass Park, located in Gig Harbor, Washington, is a 3.7-acre park that offers a variety of recreational activities for visitors. The park features a small baseball field, tennis courts that are also lined for pickleball, and a large picnic shelter for gatherings and events. One of the main attractions of the park is the historic Arletta Schoolhouse, which was originally built in 1938 and renovated in 2022.
The park is a popular destination for recreational camps, classes, and activities hosted by PenMet Parks, and the Arletta Schoolhouse is often used as a community meeting place. The park also includes a two-room historic schoolhouse, a covered pavilion, and portable restrooms on site.
Originally established by the Hales Pass Improvement Club in 1959, the park was donated to Pierce County in the 1970s and is now owned and operated by PenMet Parks. With a rich history and a variety of amenities, Hales Pass Park is a beloved tourist attraction in the Gig Harbor area.

"Hales Pass Park appears to be just a baseball field and a repurposed historical school building. I was looking for a pickleball court and missed it on the first visit. They are hidden from the rest of the park by a building marked "private property" and somewhat buried in the shadows of the surrounding trees. The pickleball courts are markings on two fairly decent tennis courts. The courts are unlighted. The nets and court surface are in good shape, although submerged under water from recent rains when I visited. The court seems to be tied up on Wednesday mornings with pickleball league play."
