About the Skagit Gleaners
Skagit Gleaners is a community-driven institution located at 1021 Riverside Drive in Mount Vernon, Washington. We are more than just a clothing store, food, home goods store; we are a hub for empowering families with programs and resources that foster sustainability and resilience. Our mission is to address food waste and build an equitable food system that provides affordable access to nutrient-rich food for all.
At Skagit Gleaners, we work with local farms to collect excess produce, offering farmers a tax write-off for their donations. This food is then shared with our members, promoting community resiliency and food justice. Our gleaning programs provide an alternative to food waste and offer cost-saving opportunities to businesses and farms that donate.
As a nonprofit organization established in 1988, we are dedicated to creating a community-driven food system that benefits everyone involved. By supporting small and local farming, promoting food justice, and providing fresh and nutritious foods to our community, we strive to make a positive impact on the environment and the lives of those we serve.
Join us in our mission to reduce food waste, increase food access, and empower our community through active participation and giving. Contact us at (360) 848-1045 or skagitgleanersoffice@gmail.com to learn more about how you can get involved or make a donation. Together, we can create a more sustainable and resilient future for all.

Reviews of Skagit Gleaners
"Great organization! I have donated two car loads of household goods and clothes. Sweat people, very helpful and accommodating. Will continue to donate in one way or another for sure!"
"Best Food rescue co-op in the Valley! This amazing waste conscious community for people with attitudes of gratitude is open a 3 hours per day, 365 days a year. They happily accept donations."
"I just signed up a little over a month ago and an having a blast. I have gotten food, books and clothing from them but now I have to figure out how to get the food/fruit/veggies eaten before they are spoiled. The staff is very professional and the customers that I have met are very friendly and courteous. I am volunteering one morning a week as well as picking up clothing at the Friendship House. Some excess stuff I have taken from the Gleaners over to the New Life at the Well's Clothing Closet that I help to keep stocked. I m having fun and will see what 2022 has in store for us all."
"This place has been a huge blessing for my family time and time again. There have been several times we've been in a tight spot and couldn't afford food/kids new clothes, food to prepare a holiday meal, but this place has delivered Everytime. You do need to pay a small amount and volunteer 3 1/2 hours a month. In the summer time you can do traditional gleaning and get volunteer hours for things like picking blueberries. You donate half the berries for hours and keep the other half. I'm often able to get the occasional treat for my kiddos here as well. It's common to have baked goods from Panera, Haggens and Starbucks. Volunteer hours can also be as easy as helping sort and hang clothes. I've also been able to get free used books and and toys for my kids. Books are especially a blessing for us. We live outside of city limits and don't have access to any of the libraries in our area. Thank you Gleaners!"
"Great sense of community. If you are on a tight food budget, check out Gleaners. Either pay $70 a month to shop 3 times a week or $40 and volunteer 4 hours a month. Each shop gets you easily what $70 will get you at the grocery store each time you shop. Glean on my friends:)"
