Reviews of Extended Stay America - Portland - Hillsboro
"Just my experience, but I was on a business trip and I knew I knew that I was booking a room to just sleep and get work done and my in-time would be about 2am. Unfortunately, due to a severe snow storm that became 3:30am. I was exhausted and still needed to get work done. I checked in and Tim at the front told me at a noon checkout instead of the normal 11am would be alright and that any hour past noon would be $10 extra. Grateful, I accepted the noon checkout. Walking to my room was interesting. In three separate rooms, it seemed there were either people who were having a mental breakdown, yelling and screaming at each other, crying babies and and pets barking. I was wondering what in the world they were all doing up at nearly 4am, then I remembered that I'm up at 4am. The halls had rolled up carpets, ladders and equipment in them. It smelled like old cigarettes and the noise was insane at this hour. I reached my room and the smoke smell worsened. Now. I did not request a smoke free room nor did I expect it, but that was so much worse than normal wear after a proper cleaning. The bathtub had short black hairs in the base and on the walls and in the curtain along with a dark looking mold. I wish the bed had an extra layer and I'm sure I could have requested it, but at this point, trying to get rest was my priority. Though, through the screaming matches and people running around the halls and slamming doors and my allergies kicking in because of the smoke, I did not sleep much. Now between the hours of 10am and 11:30am, housekeeping tried to enter my room. I'm not sure why two of those instances would be before a regular checkout time, but after experiencing the guests around me, I was scared that someone other than staff was trying to break in to my room and woke me with terror. I had to explain three times that I had arranged and confirmed late checkout to three separate people. When I checked out, I gave some feedback to at least consider mending their communication breakdown to avoid experiences like these for future guests."
"New rule before I make reservations: Check to see if they offer unhoused vouchers. Use your imagination and read the other bad reviews. Second, the Free "Grab and Go" Breakfast is only a cellophane wrapped mini-muffin. Third, the web page listing a business center must have been at Staples down the road because there isn't one here. Fourth, no in room coffee maker. Even one star places in John Day desert have coffee makers. Fifth, full appliances in the kitchen is nice but when there is nothing else there, not even a cup or stir stick, remember to pack your own. Should I go on? Sixth, the between room insulation must be a single sheet of newspaper. Bring ear protection. Better yet, don't stay here. Even if you have a voucher. 1 night - Sunday January 28th, 2024."
"This place is wretched. Not recommended for business travelers. I relocated here for work, and soon discovered that this place caters to unhoused people with vouchers. It was hard to get any sleep with the constant noise and disruptions happening all night long, people up and down the stairwells, moving furniture around, agitated pacing, loud voices. The cops were here one day talking to a couple of them. Someone banged on the door in the middle of the night and rattled the handle. There were some very foul odors at times, and the outside area was one giant ashtray with cigarette butts thrown all over the ground. We reported our concerns multiple times, but nothing ever changed. I had planned to extend another week, but we could no longer tolerate the situation, decided to leave, and ultimately found a much better place."
"Excellent location. Shopping, restaurants, grocery stores, public transportation nearby. Very clean. The big plus for me is the kitchen, laundry and general overall feel of a 4 star hotel but a more subdued atmosphere. I feel welcome and it feels more like a home than just a place to stay. I am single without family or pets so my needs are minimal as I like it!"
"This is the first review I’ve ever written for a motel. I truly wish I’d read these reviews before I made reservations. Each of the reviews have a response by management to improve. Well. I think it’s time for a change in management. They are failing miserably. Check in took awhile as the attendant was sitting in the back room. He wasn’t on a phone but seemed to simply be ignoring us. I finally knocked loudly on the counter. He then jumped up. I think he’d been asleep. Our room was on the 3rd floor. I should have turned around as soon as the elevator door opened. The carpet was disgusting and needed vacuumed. Our room smelled awful. I can’t even describe it. I’ve never smelled a meth lab but now think maybe I have. I went downstairs to complain but once again could find no one. We opened the window and decided to make the best of it as we had a long day of travel ahead of us. Finally at 3:00am with pounding headaches and raspy throats we gave up and hit the road. We would have been better off sleeping in the car in a parking lot. Avoid this place at all costs. Ive attached photos of a few issues. Unfortunately you can’t capture odor with a camera. I’d like to know how to follow up with a corporate manager. They definitely need to make some changes. We won’t ever stay at an extended stay facility again. On a positive note. Traffic in Portland is very navigable at 3:30am"
