Reviews of Humane Society of Cowlitz County
"They lied to me and discriminated against me. They lied to my husband and I, told him a half truth and then when I called they told me the full truth. It's not "first come first serve". It's "we will judge you and treat you like a child with no knowledge or experience and we will belittle you". They even said that no one was interested in the pups, ofcorse until we wanted them and took my son to meet them. Then there was suddenly over 30 people interested. Wanted to wait until we could get all their essentials including chipped, toys, beds, all the works, and toss the kennels they were to come with. The people fostering the pups said they loved us and sounded like we knew what we are doing and have plans. They even asked us to send pictures as the pups grew. Then the shelter changed their tune and didn't even tell us they had already denied our application before we walked out. They said they would call us if there were any more developments. They did not. We had to call 2 days later to find out we were denied. I will never be going to this place again. My child was looking forward to getting those pups. One was going to be my medical aid animal, to be trained when I faint to help me wake up and keep me safe. They were going to go on family adventures in the wilderness with us and live the way a dog is meant to live. Not chained up in a fenced yard barking at everything that passes because it's owners are too busy and not getting the proper exercise. These people don't care about the animals, they care about virtue signaling. That's pretty evident based on how poor and unkept the lobby is. That's the area people get to see, imagine what the area people DON'T get to see looks like."
"what a nightmare. Had an appointment with them to drop off kittens after holding them for an additional month. Showed up and they are closed. Out of the 7 (counted) staff there in the building none of them could accept the kittens. Also, seemingly, no one knows how to use a phone to cancel an appointment. After we were told it was not humane to leave them in the crate they were in and blamed for there existence we again told to leave and they would set up a new appointment."
"I volunteer at the HSCC 1-2 times a week for 2-3 hours so I'm somewhat familiar with the staff and resources available. I know that the staff are a group of hard working, animal loving people that care so much for every dog, cat, and other animal in their care. I highly recommend visiting, volunteering, fostering, or adopting from this facility. Drop in and visit, take a look at their website, or look at some animals. You'll fall in love with them!"
"I am so grateful for this shelter. We found our perfect cat, Olive, here with the help of the staff. My fiancée and I were very specific in the kind of cat we were looking for. We had gone to visit a different cat but decided it wasn’t a good fit. While we were there, we happen to across Olive. Even though is was a very busy day (spay day) at the shelter the staff never made us feel like we were in the way. They made time to chat with us and made sure we have all the information. She is positive for FIV and they took the time to answer all of our questions and help us understand exactly what that meant. We couldn’t ask for a better cat and it’s all thanks to the staff being so helpful and kind!"
