"I’ve used Turbo tax for the last Decade and decided to try H&R as they offer an advance on your refund upon credit approval from a third party. I started with the Turbo tax app to have a reference point prior to going to H&R. I made an appointment for 3pm and waited almost an hour before being helped. The woman who prepared my taxes was very kind and helpful however toward the end of filing she stated I would owe thousands in state taxes. If I hadn’t already started my return with Turbo I wouldn’t have known I only would owe $40 and I notified her that she mistakenly marked me as a resident of Mt. She went back and found her error and it showed I only owed $40. Then my refund was $100 less than Turbo and a manager came to review the return and found a box was entered incorrectly and reflecting the correct return. Again if I hadn’t started with Turbo I wouldn’t have known something was incorrectly entered. The fee was still $340 and $300 more than Turbo however I decided to proceed hoping to be approved for an advance. My husband and I are on different schedules and I asked if I could sign everything I needed to sign and he would come in later that evening and sign. We went through all the docs and I left. My husband said I still had forms to sign that I would unfortunately have to bring back the next day and super inconvenient with four children. The loan advance was immediately denied and I can help but think it was an error on H&R behalf as my husband has good credit and we’ve had a consistent simple IRS return for twenty years and do not owe support or back taxes. Beware if you want a smaller return and pay hundreds more than Turbo you likely will still not be approved for an advance if you have a credit score less than 700."
