Reviews of Cedarwood Waldorf School
"It’s a fine school until 3rd grade, I mean some of it depends on your teacher because they have a lot of freedom. It doesn’t work to have the same teacher 1-8th grade because if you get a bad teacher yout stuck with them until 8th grade. The field trips are nice that is a good feature of Cedarwood but the academic experience isn’t that challenging. If your kid wants to go to a good highschool and be prepared for it (socially and acedemically) I would recommend a different school. The school is also way overpriced for the limited things & learning experiences that it has. I strongly recommend that you dont send your child here is they have a leaning/attention disorder. They also have very serious bullying issues. The comminunity isn’t very welcoming or understanding at first they may seem nice but after a while you realize that’s not very accurate. This is just my opinion but I very strongly recommend you don’t send your child here."
"Our child has been at Cedarwood for 7 years. Every day, she has been, and continues to be excited to go to school, and that is a big indicator for us that it's a great fit. Her main teacher is AMAZING -- clear, challenging, and firm, but also kind, patient, loving, creative, highly engaging, and fun! Other teachers are also true gems. The curriculum develops "the whole child," including STEM, multiple forms of art, daily physical activity, hands-on learning, day and overnight class trips, and so much more. The school community is warm and friendly, and our class (parents and children) have a strong, supportive bond. Waldorf isn't for every child or every family, but for us, Cedarwood is 'home.'"
"A wonderful urban school and community that supports a variety of children and families from various backgrounds. At first, I was unsure about the effect of an urban location having brought my daughter from a Waldorf school in the farmlands. Their amazing family of staff, parent volunteers, flexible programs and ever-evolving campus are really as good as it gets! If you are seeking for your child to flower as a whole person with heart and continued love of learning, Waldorf is one really good way to go. We've been there for 5 years with a lot of major success in self confidence, self expression, behavior, academics, overall satisfaction and well being."
"This is not your typical Waldorf school, we moved from another local Waldorf School. We love Cedarwood because it recognizes the needs of the child and provides the tools to succeed in the real world. It nourishes the entire child at the soul, intellectual, spirit and body level. Both the right and left hemisphere of the brain is developed. The school is not stuck in dogma. The school teachers, administration and parent community is very welcoming, loving, inclusive and open minded. As far as racial diversity goes, Oregon is a very homogeneous state. Cedarwood is lucky to have kids from other countries, ethnic groups and cultures. The middle school has really geared up to educate the kids in all subjects. The students are allowed to excel and advance in any subject, unlike the other school. Plus they are taught to be independent thinkers and how to take standardized tests. Every desk holds a uniquely created main lesson book for each subject by the student. The teachers are dedicated to generating an inner enthusiasm for learning within every child, they inspire the capacity for joyful lifelong learning, curiosity and exploration. The children are prepared to successfully transition into any high school, college and then adulthood. We are fortunate that our child is in Cedarwood Waldorf School."
"Definitely a beautiful building. Unfortunately the board, faculty, and student body are almost exclusively white, (defensively so in my experience), and the vast majority of families are affluent. It is hard to think how these students could be prepared to contribute to and participate in the larger world once they leave the rarified, homogenous womb of Cedarwood. There is an almost cult like smugness about these Waldorfians, which, ironically, would utterly horrify Rudolph Steiner on whose thinking the place is based."
