Reviews of Banfield Pet Hospital
"If there is zero star, this banfield should have zero rating. Please don't get your pet to this hospital. They did not have ethic and expertise to treat your beloved pet. The vet should be ashamed. Here is what happened to losing my dog. This Tuesday first time we were in Banfield when my pet has difficulty walk and eat, they gave us some probiotics and some eyes medication. I asked vet literally if you see any life-threatening issue. She said no, you can come back "two weeks" later, which made us un-alert and optimistic. Anyhow the situation was not right the whole night but we waited to the second day, we decided that we need some x-ray, ultra sound to see what is really going on. Banfield told us they have x-ray (it was even very blurry based on ER afterwards) and kept my pet having difficulty breathing whole day on Thursday and finally called me and said that my dog was not right the situation is bad from x-ray. But they still had no clues what is going on but still recommend to do more heartworm test and such before discharge my dog to "go home". I found situation is not right and ask for ER transfer (they did not even recommend that we need to go to ER). We end up in the ER in the evening the same day, and they immediately identify the Pneumonia case. The next day at the ER, we lost our beloved pet because we were too late the condition has been progressed severely. If we can get referral to the ER in the first visit or they can asked us to go to ER in the second visit instead of wasting one day at Banfield for unnecessary exams, we won't lose our dog. I don't know about other banfield location, but the vet in Banfield Cedar mill should be ashamed. If you ever wondered, we were the patient on 2/27 Tuesday and 2/29 Thursday. We were heading to Bridgetown ER afterward where we eventually lost our beloved dog due to severe pneumonia. How in the world a vet cannot see the obvious symptoms of pneumonia and we had told the vet that our dog had been boarding at a pet hotel before being ill."
"Our appointment for both of our two cats was for 7am, we were 10 min early, and the three separate signs outside say they open at 8am. So they aren't open when we get there but will open soon, and 2 staff members come out from the back to the lobby computer and shake their heads at us, nothing more. We leave, not wanting to stick around for an hour with our cats in their carriers. While gone, we checked their website and called 4 times during that hour, but their phones were turned off. At 8am, they call us while we're on our way again. They say they only just turned on their phones and want to know where we are. So they actually opened at 7am, but didn't turn on their phones till 8am. They had improper signage, which all say they open at 8am and their employees were uncomminacative. At first, I thought someone was having a laugh. Forcing pets into carriers multiple times was a joke to them. Now, I see they're merely terrible at communication. When we finally drop the cats off their were unforseen charges, and they weren't actually ready for them. There was also no apology for the mixup. Maybe we've been spoiled by our last Banfield vets, but we're used to getting an appointment time near when the doctor is scheduled to be able to see them, then we would pick them up when they're finished, not this Banfield. They want your pets all day, way before they get seen and way longer than necessary. We won't be back to this Banfield, even though it is closest to our home. Edit: Look at these useless responses from the owner. Their corporate filled deep pockets don't mandate they actually care for the people they're in the business of care for. Like I said , we'll go somewhere else. Somewhere where conviction of practice is higher than desire for profit. (Profit has no place in Healthcare, ever.)"
"Both my girlfriend and I are absolutely furious. We took our dog CJ in to get her teeth cleaned. While rooming us, the assistant offered all of the extras. When asked about nail trimming, I told him that last time we had that done her she was quicked. He assured me that it would not happen this time. I decided to have her nails trimmed as well. When we picked her up later that day, we took her out to pee nearby. We noticed that some of her toes had been quicked, the dried blood was very obvious and being as her nails are clear, we could easily see that some of them had been cut into the pink, quick portion of her nails. We went back and asked for a refund of the nail trimming because we were upset it happened again. We spoke to two people. The first said that he would refund it but had to talk to the provider since their note wasn't finished. A second person came out to look at them and put some sort of styptic powder on a couple of the ones with the most visible dried blood. She proceeded to try and tell us that they were done correctly and that they're supposed to be cut to the pink. We said no, they're not supposed to bleed, and she said that it was probably blood from when she pulled out her catheter. We weren't told about that when we picked her up, which was concerning. And I was even more upset because it was obvious that the blood at the tip of her nails was not from blood her catheter. The lady said that they didn't look like they were actively bleeding, so we were good to go. We just looked at her and asked once again for the refund. She seemed surprised that we didn't buy the obvious b.s. she was trying to sell us to get us to leave, but eventually told us that she would refund the trimming once the provider was finished with her note. And surprise, nothing. Besides that, our dog was scared and shaking most of the night. She shied away from me as well. We assumed that she just needed some time after the visit to settle. But this morning she was still shaking, and she wouldn't even use the bathroom, and she's just lying on the bed shaking nonstop. Now I'm wondering what else happened to her while in their care and if there was more mistreatment beyond her nails being quicked. We are absolutely livid and will never take CJ to Banfield ever again. We will take her to Cedar Mills Vet Hospital exclusively from now on, and we have canceled her yearly care plan. There is no way in hell we will pay for another year of this. I understand that vets are shorthanded and possibly staffed with inexperienced people doing their best, but it's unacceptable to pick up our dog to have her shaking and traumatized, her nails quicked again, and then try to be told that they were cut correctly when they obviously were not. And no refund, of course, despite their assurance (just like they assured us she wouldn't be quicked). Their staff couldn't even acknowledge the mistake and apologize. We are done with Banfield and will warn everyone we know to never go there."
"I really used to enjoy taking my pets here, but lately scheduling has been a nightmare. The online site would not let me schedule or change the scheduling for my pet who is behind on vaccines. I would prefer to not take my pet in for a drop off because of this. I was not sent a reminder that he needed vaccinations until he was overdue, and since he is also due for a dental cleaning, the site would not let me schedule vaccines ahead of his dental cleaning. After messing around with the site and having no luck with scheduling, I called yesterday and was told I could do an in office appointment this Saturday for the vaccines, and schedule the rest later after about 30 minutes on the phone. You should be able to visit another Banfield location easily if they have an opening, or if a new location is closer to you. I was told there are rules in place about what vet techs can see what pets that are causing a lot of issues with scheduling, and that their site isn't taking new appointments online because of all the bugs. After confirming my appointment today via text, I was called by this office and told this had to be a drop off appointment. There was not a lot of empathy from the front desk about trying to make something work. Their solution was to give me an in office appointment for 12 days from now, when I had called yesterday to get in asap, and this is unacceptable. After pushing them, they found an appointment next Wednesday which will mean I need to take time off work to attend. I am frustrated at the mixed messaging and incorrect information being provided, and the amount of time I've spent trying to get an appointment scheduled. For the amount of money all of us pay, this should be a seamless experience. I do not think I will be renewing if these issues continue."
"Unfortunately, my neighborhood Banfield had to close so I have been forced to find a new office. I would not recommend making the trip out to this location. I had an appointment to check something out on my older dog that was concerning to me. This appointment was supposed to be a drop off appointment, but they had me wait for fifteen minutes for what I assumed would be a vet. This was not the case as some kind of volunteer or intern came into the exam room. The kid seemed barely able to read and could not comprehend the relatively simple questions I was asking him. He had no knowledge of how payment would work so he kept "stepping out" to ask the front desk attendant and the vets (who I could hear in the next room, chatting away). After spending almost an hour at my DROP OFF appointment, I finally left my sweet old dog in their hands. Less than an hour later, they had the same unpaid volunteer call me to explain what was going on with my pup. I felt incredibly disrespected and disappointed. My old location would never ask a clueless intern to make a phone call like that. Again, he did not understand my questions nor was he able to provide details about the costs. I was pretty short with him, such that when I went to pick up my pup, the vet was followed by some kind of pseudo-bodyguard- for fear I would cause problems, based on the kids assessment I'm sure. All that to say, this is probably the worst Banfield location in the Portland metro. The vets don't care, they can't keep decent staff, and the only competent person there was the receptionist. Take your cats and dogs literally anywhere else. This location is atrocious and needs some serious attention before it's forced to close."
