"I give 5 Solid Stars to Dr. Shelby and her caring manner with our cherished Australian Shepherd. Dr. Shelby is easygoing, informative and helpful when it comes to vaccinations and other health concerns with our beloved dog. We have been going to Big Valley Vet for many years and have been very happy with their care, especially Dr. Shelby. Recently they have gone through an overhaul with their appointment technology and have moved everything to a new app system which seems to work pretty well and their name is now "Balanced Pet NW." The approach is to engage both traditional and more holistic methods to treat pets from all angles. I appreciate that, and will stay open to all different sorts of treatments when they're needed. Having said that the prices have gone up quite a bit since I visited last year, but I think it's on par with other veterinary services in the area, and I want to go to an independently owned (not corporate) vet and am willing to pay for that. Supporting independent veterinarians is important to me in our community, and it's very difficult for vets to compete with massive corporations."
"Initially, the service was exceptional, but as the business gained popularity, the quality declined. Despite being a loyal customer for numerous years, I experienced a lapse in the standard of veterinary care during one of my appointments. Upon bringing this to their attention, they were uncooperative in addressing the issue with another appointment. To exacerbate the situation, the clinic unexpectedly discharged our family from their care after I had canceled a single appointment with more than 48 hours' notice. This decision seemed disproportionate given our long-standing patronage and the circumstances surrounding the cancellation."
"Used to be a client here, but I was dropped without notice. My dog had a severe accident and I took her to a local emergency clinic for stitches. I made an appointment with Big Valley to have the stitches removed and they scheduled me no problem, then later in the week I'm informed that we are no longer clients there and my appointment is not valid. Let me find a new vet on a moments notice in the middle of a medical emergency for my pet. Classy. Poulsbo Animal Clinic took us in immediately and Dr. Adams skipped lunch to do the procedure. I recommend going there instead."
"This place has really gone downhill in the last year. Only money motivated and completely price gouge their clients. We went in for a simple ear infection and tried pushing to treat my dog with the most expensive treatment plan rather than starting out to see if basic treatment would do the trick first. We received an estimated Charging 300-600 dollars for a simple ear infectio. An appointment that was only to be made based off the estimate. Didn't move forward with appointment due to priced estimate and they continued to charge me 75 for a missed appointment AND charged my card without Authorization. Not to mention the turn over of vets that come and go. We used to have a solid practioner every time. We never see the same vet anymore. Different person every time. We used to think this place was the best around. We had the sense they cared and we belonged to a something special. Not sure if it's new management or what but we have felt big changes this past year that has left us feeling taken advantage of, disconnected and like money is the only thing they care about. It's not even about the money that bothers us. It's how we were treated when we disputed something."
"If you're an existing client, find a new vet fast! If you're new, don't even consider this place. They don't care about their patients. I've been going to this practice for 7 years. Spent literally thousands of dollars. I've had all of my pets here and recently was told when I called to have my dog seen for an illness that because I hadn't been there in the last year I was considered a new client, and they weren't taking any new clients! This for my dog who Dr Watson had seen so many times I can't even count for a skin problem that she couldn't figure out, that I was suggesting things to look for and that another vet determined easily with a blood test and skin scrape was Staph and Yeast. Cleared up in weeks with an antibiotic and yeast medicine. I might add both of these problems came about after her spay surgery was performed here. Coincidence? Maybe. This place was great when Dr. Shannon Leska was there. Gone downhill ever since she left."
