"We had a leak on the house side of the City's Water Meter (which the City says they didn't cause it when their contractor disturbed the old meter to put the wires in for a new meter) which needed to be repaired before the City contractor (Pacific Metering Services out of Nevada) could complete the installation of the NEW water meter. Advanced Plumbing was several hours late showing up on the date of their initial visit and when they did show up (and we were not home), they didn't even notice our meter was in the neighbor's driveway. I had to make several phone calls and discovered that any major repairs (removing the sidewalk) in a public right of way requires several permits from the City of Olympia's Community Planning and Development department. I had the City's Public Utility's manager meet me at the house and after using a simple hand held water pump to remove the water from the inside of the water meter, I dug with my fingers a couple of inches below and beyond the metal meter box to discover the clamp connecting the main house Poly Line, located right on the other side of the metal box. The repair would be simply to remove a 6 inch by 2 foot chunk of concrete to get to this connection and to replace the clamp with a fitting. Advanced Plumbing's estimate for this work was $1,974.00, and did not include the permit fees. I leave it to the educated consumers to decide if this is a reasonable fee or if ythey should seek other alternatives."
