"I've been at CRT for over 7 years now. I initially sought out a competent Wing Tsun instructor (which I found in Cory), but was also introduced to and learned to love Muay Thai as well as Escrima. I've developed a confidence in and a passion for self-defense and am excited to continue my journey as a martial artist. The people here are friendly here and the egos are low."
"I have been training with Cory at CRT for 5 months and have had an excellent experience and feel way more competent to defend myself. His method is completely practical, about how to defend yourself in real circumstances. The attitude is “Winning means getting to go home.” One thing that is very valuable to me about his approach is he always assumes the opponent may have a weapon and teaches things that are effective in this case. For example, he does not encourage grappling the neck, because if they have a knife then they can get you, even though grappling the neck would be very effective in a MMA setting. And the way he teaches is very safe, and I feel confident that I will be able to train without injuring myself. He is very skillful at training people, a true professional, he toughens people up, and the vibe in the class is positive and supportive."
"Corey and the teaching assistants are knowledgeable, patient and the classes are fun. They are good at explaining why you do something, not just how. Ive taken a lot of different types of martial arts classes in the past and this is a really good break from the rigid arm waving. It's giving me more confidence because Seattle is scary and I want practical street knowledge to be able to defend myself."
"I've been training with Cory for about a year now and I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn self defense skills. Cory has impressively broad knowledge when it comes to martial arts and his teaching approach is to give a framework that you can apply in most of settings, whether it is a fight with any kind of weapon or you fighting bare hand. You will learn techniques that work well in any scenario. Cory is always trying to make class to be fun and welcoming to everyone. Group sizes are pretty small and vary 6-10 people which I really like because it gives a chance to connect with everyone."
"I’ve been training with Cory since 2019. I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn practical self-defense skills in a fun and welcoming learning environment. Class sizes are small so you can get to know everyone, which I feel is important when learning something as intimate as self-defense training. Cory makes sure everyone is safe as they move out of their comfort zone. He is a great teacher and takes the time to make sure everyone is understanding the material and having a good time. As an assault survivor, these classes have made me feel safe and confident. I now feel capable instead of vulnerable, and that is priceless to me."
