"It is a great facility, full of incredible and amazing people. The problem is the owner. He is dishonest and "clicky." After 17 months of consistent training, 166 credit hours, 50+ sparring hours, a great attitude, and nearly $10k, (5 memberships) Mel Locke (the owner) stole our money and time by withholding my wife's blue belt test & promotion - without any explanation or reason. In fact, he refused to communicate or respond to questions when he was asked. He couldn't even remember or call her by the right name! Imagine this happening at any legitimate school. It's fraud. Or at least, a dishonest money grab. Mel is disloyal to his students and paying customers, and dishonest in his business. A new facility in Camas, WA called: The Base / CheckMat is owned and operated by honest people who are competitors of Universal. You'll actually be valued there. They're not gonna rip you off or overlook you. (Universal might.) I bet the instructors at Checkmat even remember your name."

"Professor Locke is a great guy and even better instructor. I trained here for a few years back in my high school days and hope to come back and train soon. I loved the welcoming atmosphere at Universal, the friendly and respectful instructors when I was there.
