Reviews of Plum Street YMCA
"Today I called in with questions regarding a youth program for my daughter. I was transfered to Tyler, when initially told that he would get back to me with answers, I thought "Yeah, right... this could be days or weeks." I was incorrect! Tyler returned my call same day and answered all my questions and advocated to meet my families needs. Fantastic customer service! I look forward to becoming a member and getting my kiddo involved."
"Sharing with and helping the homeless community is a great idea! During business hours however this is a gym. After hours, why stop with a shower... this facility has the space and resources to offer a sleeping area and showers plus offer food of some sort however that would require the staff to be inconvenienced...... To be clear, I do help in my own way because I care."
"I go yo the Y for exercise AND community and because it fills me with joy! So much connection there from the minute I walk in the door! The wonderful front desk staff shine out their greetings with big, sincere smiles which always lifts my spirits, you betcha! And the classes are wonderful, what a smorgasbord of excellent, fun teachers teaching a big range of interesting things, and members can try almost all of them for no additional cost. I find that incredible. I meet great people in the classes; after just 2 months, I have gotten to begin some meaningful friendships. And last, but NOT least, many of my friends attend attend classes there, what a treat!"
"This is a very very small gym. We visited here while in town and compared to our local Y it's super small. The equipment is very different. A lot of the stationary weight equipment as well as the cardio room upstairs seemed outdated. But it was at least an option in town to get some exercises in. The only reason we went here was because the other South Sound Y closed way too early on the day we went."
"I like the relative openness of exercising at Plum St.; it is hardly ever over-crowded (though it was close last night, 11-20). The facility is kept clean, including the locker rooms. And, lastly, the equipment is almost always kept in good working order. *See below for exceptions. The staff at Plum St. is friendly, knowledgeable and responsive. *While most/all exercise machines have been in good working order in the past two years I've been a member; but there are now two exceptions.* 1.) The leg extension machine has two significant horizontal tears in the pad that one rests one's legs on. When I flex to lift the bar the splits in the pad grab my skin/hair and pull as I extend my legs. It is painful. I have pointed this serious flaw to staff 4-5 times over the past 2-3 months. Nothing has been done. 2.) ALL the TV screens on the treadmill and stationary bikes are set at an incorrect resolution, this shrinks the size of the visible screen and cuts off about 1/4 of the height & width of what's shown on the screen. This is most noticeable when watching a news program or sports event, where text on the screen is cut off, and significantly impairs what's shown. As in the pad on the leg extension machine, I've pointed this flaw out to staff 4-5 times over the past 2-3 months. PLEASE FIX THESE FLAWS!! Thanks from all the members. Jim Longley, Olympia."
