The Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) is a leading research institution located in Seattle, Washington, United States. At AI2, we focus on machine reasoning, common sense for AI, and language modeling. Our open-source PyTorch-backed NLP platform allows you to design, evaluate, and contribute new models, as well as access state-of-the-art implementations of important NLP models and tools.

The Aristo Project aims to develop systems with a deep understanding of the world, integrating technologies for reading, learning, reasoning, and explanation. The Mosaic team works on improving common sense for AI, a fundamental skill needed to expand AI applications beyond their current limitations.

In addition, we apply AI to climate modeling and wildlife protection. EarthRanger is a real-time software solution that aids wildlife conservation efforts, while Skylight helps combat illegal fishing through technology that provides transparency and actionable intelligence for maritime enforcement.

Our ultimate goal is to enhance understanding of climate change and its impacts, using data and technology to inform mitigation and adaptation strategies. We also utilize machine learning to support wildland fire management and research, focusing on ground-level fuels that are not detectable by current satellite technology.
