"TL;DR I could not recommend the LCs less at this location and would say ADVOCATE for yourself if they’re making you stressed. 2 consultants made me so stressed I didn’t opt to breastfeed and now I get to live with the question if I made the right decision. Found the nurses I saw Bonnie and Amy. Bonnie was the absolute worst The whole story: I was at Portland Providence for my labor and had requested the aid of a lactation consultant to help me figure out my breast pumps. I SPECIFICALLY only asked for this because I didn’t need help with latching or breastfeeding, the L&D nurses were great. I wish I could remember who I saw but both women came in like tornadoes. The first woman came in and listed everything wrong with me that could prevent my milk from coming in (I had 0 issue) and then proceeded to tell me how to sit but that I scooted wrong in the bed “you can’t move like that, you just had a c section” in such a rude way. Then the breastfeeding (again DID NOT ask for this). She gets our baby in his diaper and basically slaps him onto me. Of course he starts crying hysterically and she goes “let’s try 3 times and after 3 times we’ll need to bottle feed because he’ll get frustrated”. Well he was already frustrated. It became an insanely traumatizing experience to the point that I opted to not breastfeed at all because it created such anxiety in me. The next lady came in the day were we’re leaving in the same way. She picks up our baby and is swinging him around pretty aggressively. Then she forces me into an appointment that I found out afterward I didn’t need. She made it seem like I needed to come in the next day and you DO NOT have to go to a LC appt after you leave and you don’t need to see a LC. I wish I had never asked for their help. Their negativity, aggressiveness and just blatant disregard for what I was going through really ruined something that should’ve been special."
"I have seen both Erin and Jessica. I highly appreciate their support as I navigate a life with a newborn for the first time. I would highly recommend them both!!"
"I had the pleasure to see Sally with my newborn and I had a wonderful experience. She is very knowledgeable and supportive and was able to take me from an anxious/vulnerable state to sending me on my way confident and secure in my abilities to provide for my little babe. I also had my husband and 7 year old present and she was very kind and patient with my other kiddo as well. I will be reaching out again as needed but for now my little one and I are doing great :)"
"Erin has been my go-to lactation consultant for 4.5 years. I’ve seen her with all three of my kids. She goes above and beyond all other lactation consultants I've seen and is truly the most knowledgeable consultant I’ve come across. My OB has sent me to a variety of consultants and I end up booking my own appointments with Erin as she’s been able to help me with the variety of breastfeeding issues/complications I have. That’s saying a lot as I’m not an easy case and my issues have stumped my OB (constant mastitis, incurable thrush, etc). She’s so good I’ve referred her to family and friends."
"Incredibly helpful team! I saw several lactation nurses and nurse practitioners who offered very valuable information and really helped me. They were friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and easy to get an appointment with (both in-person and through the convenience of TeleHealth). I highly recommend them!"
