"We love Mount Baker Preschool; our daughter is midway through her first year there and it's been a great fit for her and for our family. The kids have ample outdoor play time each day, the classroom is wonderfully inspiring and inviting, and the daily snacks consist of beautiful fresh fruits, veggies, and grains. The school accommodates a total enrollment of about 20-25 children per year, and the community feels large enough for kids to have lots of variety in play partners but small enough to get to know all of the parents and families. The classroom is mixed-age, with three, four, and five year olds sharing the play space and play materials throughout the school day. Mount Baker Preschool offers a co-op model, meaning parents can choose to take on the responsibility of helping out in the classroom (it's also possible to enroll in a non-co-op model for families who are unable to or prefer not to work in the classroom). For me, being in the classroom and witnessing the kids' interactions has helped me develop a better understanding of a range of age-appropriate skills and challenges, which has been an unexpected benefit that has helped me refine my approach to communicating with preschool-aged kids. Teacher Violetta and Assistant Teacher Carolyn are clearly invested in each child's success and happiness, and the kids overwhelmingly seem to look forward to school and enjoy their time there. Happy to have found this hidden gem in Mount Baker!"

"Mount Baker Preschool emphasizes simplicity and learning through play and imagination. There is lots of outdoor play time, art, open-ended play items, a warm and nurturing indoor space, story time and songs. Mount Baker also has the privilege of partnering with Bradner Gardens pea patch to give the kids the opportunity to grow and prepare their own food from an organic garden. It is a diverse school with different languages and cultures. My son just started kindergarten after graduating from this preschool, and it has been amazing to see him thrive in a typical public school after attending Mount Baker. Teachers emphasize that it's most important kids are socially and emotionally ready for kindergarten (rather than just academically) and Mount Baker excels at providing this. Children are given the space to solve their own problems and conflicts (with supervision, of course) and to work as a team in play and imaginative games. It's truly amazing to watch what children can do when we take a step back and give them a bit of freedom!"
