"I went here during it's first 2 years. I hated this school and it's so sad that it has only gotten worse over the years. My special ed teacher was an authoritarian monster, the school was full of bullies, the teachers didn't care whether I lived or died. And of course, let's not forget that, like all VPS schools, the jocks and popular kids would be allowed to bully me with complete impunity, something I'm sure still happens there today and something that all VPS schools seem to have in common. I have ADHD and Anxiety which went untreated until my adult years because I was never aware that is what was wrong with me and almost the entirety of the school had a very ignorant mentalist attitude towards me. Nobody cared about helping me, only punishing me, you don't yell at a problem to make it go away. You don't bark orders at students and expect results, all you'll get is grudges which you rightfully deserve. I lost my yearbooks when I moved to a new place so I asked earlier this year if I could look at the yearbooks from the years I attended and print up a few pages for a project I'm working on. My request was denied and the librarian basically used the old "won't somebody please think of the children" excuse to justify basically treating me like a criminal, as if the staff of VPS even care about children, they only care about their conflicts of interest and perks and benefits from their disgustingly corrupt neo-liberal teacher's unions. Want a good idea of this? "LIFO (education)" Look it up on wikipedia but try not to be eating when doing so, it'll make your stomach churn. And looking at Felicia French's review, she mentioned that if somebody with tattoos comes in, they automatically assume the person is a criminal and lock the school down. I knew it wasn't my imagination when your librarian treated me like a criminal because I don't fit an exact standard of how they expect people to behave. It's places like Discovery that makes me think, as much as I hate the Republican Party and most conservative ideas and believe me, I do, (I'm a left leaning centrist), that maybe America's education system deserves Betsy Devos, even if her ideas suck. FYI, if I had tattoos and you locked down any school because of me, that would result in a massive lawsuit heading your way as a consequence as I suffer from claustrophobia and a fear and hatred of corrupt authority figures which I know your school district is rife with and I don't take being treated unfairly well and it doesn't take much for me to hold a grudge. Also, I'm well respected in this town to boot and I am very familiar with the fact that most people in this town hate VPS. If I had children, they would not attend this school or ANY school in Vancouver Public Schools and in fact, my recent experiences with this school have exacerbated my fear in Vancouver Public Schools, a fear that originated from being bullied at this school and others by other students and corrupt union abusing teachers and VPS' love of bully culture, despite claims to the contrary, a fear that has only gotten worse over the years."
"This is a horrible school.... IF YOUR WHITE YOU WILL BE OK! IF YOUR BLACK YOU WILL BE DISCRIMINATED TO THE FULLEST they are prejudice. The teachers can put there hands on the kids and admit to it and have no repercussions. They don't care if your child has special needs or is on an IEP or diagnosed with adhd it's a joke to them. Don't send your child there. I can go on and on. but there are some good teachers."
"Really great school and the staff and teachers are amazing. I noticed the staff had really good connections with their students and they have made it a warm and welcoming environment for everyone. The students were my favorite! nice to each other and their visitors too!"
"I loved this school when I was once a student. When my child was going into middle school, I couldn't have been more excited that he too would get to enjoy this school as I once did. Never in my mind how rude and quick to judge the staff had become. The associate principal I had to put up with there was once a teacher I looked up to. She made me completely lose respect for her when she told me that "if they have tattoo's, they are probably convicted felons and dangerous to the students, so we go into lockdown." I can't even express how rude and obnoxious that statement was as a woman with tattoo's and absolutely zero criminal history. They made the mistake not to read my son's IEP and were quick to just place him on multiple suspensions until they could find better placement. My 7th grade student attended maybe 3 months total and is still being placed in 8th grade this year. This school need a massive staff upgrade. To all who thought you loved this school, it has changed. I can't say the academics are better or worse due to how little my son was able to attend. I can however state the staff is absolutely terrible and would rather expell or suspend instead of working together to keep a student in school while trying to solve the problem. A problem that could have been avoided had they listened to the parent in the first place and understood the IEP stating there was a special need student coming in."
"This is the worst school to send my three children there. There is lot of students who is coming from a broken home along with drugs problem. I have report to school to try prevent, nothing had been done. I also had report student being suicide at the school telling my child, go pop your veins or pass me a scissor i will cut u up. It is the worst middle school. There is a electric vapor smoke going on in bathroom and I had to report. Nothing had been done. This is worst school for a deaf parent because, They are lousy on providen interpreter for events or parent meeting or urgent meeting. I would suggest you as deaf parent to send your children diffrent school."
