"Love the staff and the school. You will be happy your kid goes here!"
"My son has been attending Harney since Kindergarten. Yes, he has been involved in a couple physical and verbal incidents and each was addressed by faculty and dealt with up to my standards, including contacting their parents. My son is in 5th grade this year and he LOVES Harney! He has made long lasting friends, played in championship basketball and he has learned SO much from Harney. I believe his teachers over the years have had alot to do with that. I give them 5 stars! My daughter attended kindergarten last year and she absolutely LOVES school. Mrs. Goforth (who also taught my son in kinder) and her teaching skills, plus classroom activities, made her first year of school the BEST! Thank you. Her first week of kinder, she was put on the wrong bus. While it frustrated me to get a phone call at work and having to leave to pick her up, I understand mistakes happen. We are all human and nobody is perfect. My daughter has just started first grade and amazes me at all she has already learned, her writing skills and her reading is awesome! Harney has curriculum nights, PTO meetings, etc for anyone to attend to voice their opinions and/or address any issues you feel need to be addressed. While reading these reviews, I felt obligated to voice my opinion. Kids will be kids. You can't blame the school or all of the faculty for bullying or harassing students. Some teachers are not as good as others, some don't have as much patience, and maybe they should find another career. But my experience and both my kids experiences are great. I have always got calls back if I leave messages. My kids have always been well cared for. For the incidents that did happen, I was notified immediately and/or when I called, I was listened to and appropriate actions were taken. I get great feedback at conferences. While no school is perfect, for Harney, I have no complaints. I think Harney is wonderful :)"
"Love! Love! Love this school. Both my girls completed elementary school here. One did the Spanish emersion and the other didn't. Both received quality education."
"I had my son enrolled in this school, right as he was starting school so kindergarten. First day at school and they put him on the wrong bus, when we got to the school they did not know where he was. We had to wait for the bus to bring him back to school. His teachers that he had insisted that he had adhd, and that it needed to be treated i have taken my son several times to check and his doctor has always told me he is just an active child. She then started pushing the school councilor down my throat and the only way to get her to try a different approach with him was telling her point blank i will not medicate him. The councilor never respond to any of my 7 messages i left for him. Then we move and i didnt want to move my son so close to the end of the year so i left him there told the school even filled out a change of address. Two weeks before school ends the principal calls me and tells me my son is not allowed to come back to school after that day, because we moves out of state which we moves to north west portland and they cannot cross states like that. I got into a heated argument with the prinicpal over this, it was two weeks left and she wouldnt make an exception if she had said i would have to transfer for next year i would have been fine but she refused and i had to go and enroll him into an entirely different school for the last two weeks ridiculous. Never take your child to this school. I now tell everyone none of my family or friends will be subjective to this school and staffs mistreatment."
"I love this school! First to address the diffrence between Spanish Immersion students and main stream students...THERE IS NO DIFFRENCE. They have a great staff and I love the fact that our children are held accountable for their actions I would not call that being strict at all. I hated public school growing up and started my daughter off in private school thinking that it would be better but Harney gave that private school a run for it's money BIG time. Love the teachers who really care and a great principal. Keep up the good work Harney :) Mr. Hill - very sad you can't "write" or "spell" yourself, and your veiws on Hispanic people is so back woods redneck, there (including the field of medicine) are a TON of translation jobs that your daughter could benefit from knowing a second language. My hope for your daughter is the "apple" falls far from the tree. Maybe the two of you could study spelling together. Best of luck to you! :)"
