The Coffin Club

"While I respect the Vegan menu, the lack of fries, tots, or anything similar makes the choices feel extremely limited. This was made worse due to 2 items being unavailable the night I went. The Grilled Cheese I had was tasty and cooked well. The quality isn't the issue with the food just the very limited selection. Other than that one issue everything else was phenomenal! I went during Drag Night and the performances were amazing! The music is great and there is plenty of seating so that you don't have to get there super early to have a place to sit. The service of the bars slows down significantly once the crowd really gets large, which is to be expected but it is still an issue, though this gets alleviated a bit once all three bars are opened. Showing good awareness of the organizers. The lower level is a major centerpiece but I loved the small community room with the open coffin that people take pictures in. It has a lot of sitting room which allows for multiple groups to sit at once and becomes a great social location with the coffin and hanging art pieces easily serving as ice breakers!"

"I paid too much for two cover bands and drinks. The sound was terrible, up way too high and the surroundings are cold and uncomfortable. (NOT the fault of the bands, specifically the Portishead cover band was very talented they just had bad quality of the venue's sound equipment. The most awkward show I've been to in Portland ever & that's saying a lot. I think this is a surroundings thing? The cold basement venue- concrete floor with nowhere to chill doesn't help. Rude bartenders for literally no reason, pricey drinks. The vibe tried to be there just never got there. I couldn't make out a single word that the lead was singing for the Cocteau Twins cover band. The sound was just really that bad. I hate how much they charged as the cover for the quality of experience. A lot of people just go there to take pictures, which doesn't help with vibe. The upstairs DJ was playing some decent industrial sounds though and I appreciate that. I would go back to dance but not for a live show."

"The 2nd live band on Saturday was so horrible. They figured if they turned it up loud enough for the customers ears to bleed, it may sound better! It didn't. It sure cleared the main room! The basement was closed and the 1 bartender they had didn't know how to properly pour a mixed drink. I saw him short pour 3 drinks before I got to him. Best to just get a canned beverage. It took forever to get a drink too. The atmosphere was awesome. DJ was good."

"Cool little place!!! Definitely very unique in the decor and atmosphere. Thought the vending machine full of little novelties was pretty cool. Seems like a fun place to spend a weekend night. However they do NOT allow bridal parties of any kind. This rule isn't explicitly posted anywhere but we were a group of 4 in Portland for my sisters bachelorette weekend and had on bride sashes, bracelets, and headbands and had to take everything bridal related off before we were allowed inside the building. It was still a cool experience though!"
