The Historic Covington House

"The Historic Covington House has quite an interesting history. As small as this house looks; especially by today's standards, it can comfortably accomodate 35 people. Built between 1846-1848, it is the oldest domestic dwelling in Clark County Washington. This house served as both a residence and a boarding school. The owners Richard and Charlotte Covington were hired by the Hudson Bay Company to teach the employees children. It became quite a social gathering place too considering that the Covington's were both accomplished musicians. Ulysses S. Grant, who at the time was a US Army Captain at the Fort Vancouver Barracks, was known to visit here frequently. Today, the house is owned by the city of Vancouver. Events such as weddings, family reunions, receptions, etc. are available to book here. You can call or text to book an event or even a walk through of the house. Several events are held here, so with some nicer weather coming our way, definitely check out the schedule of events. This house, like many other places in the area, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you love anything historical, you'll want to check this place out."

"Cute little cottage venue for small events. Easy to find right off I-5. Went up there on a Saturday to shoot a wedding and it was just as it looks in the pictures. There are a lot of things on the walls to look at that give information on the history of the house. I loved the way the light looked coming through the windows in the evening and the fireplace is gorgeous! There was enough room for the cake table, buffet food table, and about 7 round tables for guests! The bathrooms are tiny, but they made it work! Kitchen is good size for getting food ready. The landscape is well kept, there was a cute litle area we got to do a 'first look' and photos with guests after the ceremony. The parking lot is easy to get in and out of, right off Main, so things are close by."

"This is a great historic home which was moved from orchards in the 1920s. Is not large, and when it is open there is no fee to visit. It is also available for rent for private events. You can see the numbers on some of the logs which they labeled so they could reassemble them when they moved the building. The floors are still original, through they look in great shape. This is the oldest house in Washington."

"Our wedding party was less than 25 people. We wanted a small venue where we could have an intimate ceremony and reception together in one place. My first contact was through the website by calling the phone # listed. Loretta resonded promptly and we made arrangements to see the venue. She and another lady named Racine were there and showed us around. They manage this cute little log home which is on the historical registry. It has a full kitchen, two bathrooms and a changing room for the bride. On the wedding day we arrived as planned to set up and there were some boxes next to the fire place. I think it was the heating system being replaced and the guys left the boxes in our way not realizing there was a wedding to be had! I called Loretta. She and her husband came to the rescue. The boxes were heavy. They ended up covering them in white sheets and decorated the obstruction with flowers. When they finished it looked like it belonged there as part of our wedding decor. Problem fixed. Thank you ladies for handling things swiftly and being so easy to work with. We loved having our wedding here. All our guests just loved the place."

"I live in the complex behind this house. When we first moved in we were told by our landlord that our visitors could park in the Covington house lot because our complex has no visitor parking. The other day a lady who said she was the president of the association that owns the house came and asked residents for information on who was parked in the lot. She looked at my roommate's car, which was parked in her own spot, and nowhere near the landmark and said " You have such a nice car, I would hate for it to get towed, so don't park out there. " The next day when I left for work, vehicles were getting towed from the lot. I'm not reporting this because my car got towed. We only have one car, and we always park in our own spot... Nothing ever happens at that house. It's just a little house with a giant parking lot. It's owned by the city of Vancouver, and you'd think that this association that only uses it on occasion could share some of that space. If you look at the website, it's closed for all but 2 hours of the week. You can only view it by appointment, so it's not like people are causing it to lose business by parking there. Learn to share."
