Reviews of L’ Orange
"This place is amazing! Look for the orange door on 11th Ave, then head up the stairs! I sat at the counter, and had a birds eye view into the kitchen. Props to the kitchen crew for making such great food in such a tiny space! I started out with the French onion soup, which was absolutely fantastic! Instead of croutons, cubes of roasted garlic bread pudding were used. Combined with the crispy Gruyere surrounding the bowl, this soup is a great starter! For my main course, I decided to go with the Pork option, which was bursting with many different flavors! The pork was fall apart tender, and had a smoked paprika crust on top. The broth was something that I wish I could get by the bottle, it was that good! For dessert I chose the L'Orange Cake. The cake was moist and had a nice torched crust on top. I was very happy with this choice! Overall, a fantastic experience, which is highly recommended. It's fun to eat on the second floor of an old historic house!!"
"This is the best restaurant experience in Portland right now. Have a pitch perfect meal with friendly and chill staff in a gem of a 1905 Portland building. You will keep thinking about each bite, daydreaming of the flavors long after you leave. Great vermouth by the glass. Wonderful specials. Magical cheese plate. The best cake in town. Take all your friends, but take them one at a time so you have a reason to go back soon. And did I mention this is stunning food at the best prices of any menu in the city!?"
"This is one of the best restaurants in Portland and frankly it's one of the best in the country. The staff is friendly and takes time to discuss the menu and wine choices. The wine list has several Oregon wines, including some unusual choices that are great. The menu is filled with comfort food, and everything we ordered was amazing. Everything is perfectly executed with incredible quality ingredients. Every dish was a modern take on a traditional classic; each bite feels familiar but elevated. The onion soup was rich and warming, but better balanced and nuanced than the usual cheese-slathered messy preparation. Likewise the duck had a familiar palette, but the Dijon sauce pushed it well past the typical dish. The crepe with chicken was unbelievably tender and evocative of chicken pot pie, but so much better. The gnocchi was just incredible. Supple, soft gnocchi with squash and other vegetables and a sauce that stopped conversation at our table. If you're anywhere near Portland, this is a must-eat restaurant."
"We had a lovely evening at L'Orange last night. The staff was super friendly, the food and wine were great, and the atmosphere was really nice for an intimate date or catching up with friends. The table before us took longer than expected, but we had a great time sitting at the bar and talking about wine and cats with staff! We especially liked the duck liver tart and are still trying to guess the secret ingredient in the delicious soup!"
"What an amazing experience! 5 stars all the way. My sister and I are particular to the wines we enjoy and Les Caves has never disappointed so this new restaurant was a MUST try! All the wines were delicious (the orange wine was my personal favorite). The chicken liver mousse, the sturgeon, cabbage, fig ice cream, and rhubarb dessert all paired nicely with the different wines. The atmosphere was quirky, classy, homey, and peaceful. We're taking our hard-to-please mom here when she visits!!"
