About the Statue of General Friedrich von Steuben
The Statue of General Friedrich von Steuben is located at Valley Forge Park Road in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, United States. This institution is part of Valley Forge, the historic site where the Continental Army camped during the harsh winter of 1777-1778. Reviews of Statue of General Friedrich von Steuben
"Nice overlook spot. Cool statue of a significant figure in the American Revolution. Lots of parking. Good as a base for walks and biking."
"Von Steuben was a very important but often overlooked figure in the Revolutionary War. He helped drill and train Washington's troops at Valley Forge for combat against the British. He definitely deserves this statue and honor."
"My favorite Valley Forge general to read about. The statue is big & tall, and there's a lot of info about him here. I love the view from here looking out over the park!"
"Von steuben is a German officer who helped train American troops, adapted Prussian warfare techniques suited to the American character and to conditions of warfare during the revolutionary war. Provides a great view of the park where the statue stands. Plenty of parking, but can fill up fast"
"He came to America speaking no English, only Prussian and French. He was assigned an officer who spoke French and translated the French to English! It is said the soldiers found it comical how he'd curse at them in Prussian, then French, then the American officer would curse them out in English! But the men learned to respect and trust him. After a winter of learning to load in a sequence and marching in order they came out in the Spring to face the British, a new and much improved Army. He saved the Continental Army and brought an order the the military that lasted for 100 years. He is buried in upstate NY on a plot of land he was given in return for his military service, it's a very solemn spot in the woods, a fitting place for him."
